    Abstract: A membrane electrode assembly includes: a polymer electrolyte membrane; a pair of electrode catalyst layers in contact with the surfaces of the polymer electrolyte membrane with the polymer electrolyte membrane therebetween; and a gas diffusion layer laminated on each of the pair of electrode catalyst layers. Each electrode catalyst layer includes catalytic substances, carbon particles, polymer electrolyte aggregates, and fibrous substances, and the gas diffusion layer has a Gurley value, which represents the air permeability in the thickness direction, of 1.0 second or more and 3.0 seconds or less.

    Abstract: An object is to provide an electrode catalyst layer, a membrane electrode assembly, and a polymer electrolyte fuel cell that can suppress decrease in durability of the membrane electrode assembly and decrease in power generation performance of the polymer electrolyte fuel cell by suppressing crack generation in the electrode catalyst layer. An electrode catalyst layer according to one aspect of the present invention is an electrode catalyst layer including at least: a catalytic substance; aggregates of polymer electrolytes; and polymer electrolyte fibers.
