摘要: A plasma display device and a driving method according to the present invention erase more wall charges formed on electrodes by controlling a voltage applied to a sustain electrode and a scan electrode during a falling period of a reset period of the next subfield as the number of sustain discharge pulses applied to the scan electrode and the sustain electrode during a sustain period of a previous subfield increases. Different waveforms may be used during the falling period of the reset period for different subfields, to vary a number of wall charges that may be erased.

摘要: An apparatus and method for driving a plasma display panel. In an idle period, a lowest voltage is applied to each circuit of a driving board of a plasma display panel so that a bootstrap capacitor of a switch driving circuit may enter a chargeable state. Therefore, it is possible not only to make the capacity of the bootstrap capacitor of each circuit small, but also to effectively prevent an abnormal discharge or an abnormal operation of each circuit when an abnormal image is inputted.

Since conventional PDP waveforms require very high reset voltages, it causes a problem of intense background light emissions, low contrasts, use of high-voltage components, and increased circuit costs. According to the driving waveforms of the present invention, relative voltage differences between the address electrode and the X electrode and between the X electrode and the Y electrode are considered to design waveforms of low reset voltages, thereby providing high contrasts and low-cost circuit.

摘要: A plasma display device including a first electrode, a second electrode, and a third electrode crossing the first electrode and the second electrode is disclosed. A plurality of first sustain pulses are applied to the first electrode and a plurality of second sustain pulses are applied to the second electrode during a sustain period of a first subfield. A voltage at the first electrode gradually decreases from a third voltage to a fourth voltage after the voltage at the first electrode gradually increases from a first voltage to a second voltage, during a sub-reset period of a second subfield being consecutive to the first subfield. The plurality of second sustain pulses includes a first group and a second group, the second group includes the last one of the second sustain pulses, and a second sustain pulse of the second group has a different characteristic (e.g., pulse width) from a second sustain pulse of the first group.

摘要: A method of driving a high brightness and high contrast plasma display panel which does not generate an erroneous discharge in a sustain period due to a strong discharge in a reset period. The method includes initializing discharge cells defined in areas where a plurality of electrodes cross, in a reset period by applying falling pulses to first electrodes and a bias voltage to second parallel electrodes from when or anytime after the reset falling pulses are applied, and the second electrodes are floated or bias falling pulses are applied to the second electrodes during a predetermined period from when or anytime after the reset falling pulses are applied to when the reset period ends; addressing discharge cells selected to be turned on and off in an address period; and performing a sustain discharge in a sustain period in each discharge cell that is selected to be turned on.
