Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for measuring velocity of a fluid stream via deflection of a wire filament. Also disclosed is a process for measuring velocity of a fluid stream, requiring deflecting two or more wire filaments in a fluid stream, measuring two or more resistances, and equating the velocity of the fluid stream to the result of a function of the two or more resistances. In both the apparatus and method, one wire filament must have a length dimension longer than at least one of a dimension of the wire filament in the primary sensing or transverse direction, as well as a dimension of the wire filament in the primary sensing and/or transverse direction less than 50 μ U ρ throughout a predetermined operating range.

Abstract: A system and method for monitoring the pressure of an injection site, utilizing a fluid operating in the laminar regime flowing through a calibrated tube, and measuring a pressure at one end of the calibrated tube with a pressure sensor, as well as a fluid velocity with a flow sensor, such as an elastic filament velocimeter, that comprises a nano-scale sensing element. Additional elements may be utilized, including the use of data acquisition units, processors, user interfaces, pumps, syringes, and control loops.

Abstract: A system and method for measuring multiple velocity components with a single wire, by alternating current through the wire at a sufficiently high frequency, where the first current allows measurement of a first velocity component, and the second current allows measurement of a second velocity component. The resolution of the measurements can be adjusted by altering the frequency at which the current is alternated.
