摘要: A standoff arm and probe assembly for a helicopter has a standoff mounting arm that extends outwardly from the helicopter body in a selected direction, preferably forwardly. The standoff arm has an outer end that mounts a low lateral speed sensing probe that is positioned with an axis substantially parallel to the axis of a helicopter rotor, and within the downwash region of air movement causes by the rotor. The low lateral speed sensing probe has ports that are arranged annularly around the probe, and the pressures sensed at selected annular or peripheral locations on the probe are measured to determine low air speeds. Additionally, the standoff arm can mount a plurality of other sensors such as a pitot pressure probe extending forwardly from the arm, a lateral pressure sensing probe along a lateral side of the arm, and the arm can mount outside air temperature sensors, ice detectors, and total air temperature sensors, if desired.

摘要: An angle of attack sensor has a vane mounted on a rotating shaft that rotates in response to angle of attack. The shaft has a rotor at one end which is in a chamber in a housing supporting the shaft. The chamber includes a space around the rotor filled with either an electrorheological or magnetorheological fluid. A controller is used to provide an electrical signal, such as a signal controlling an electromagnet, to change the magnetic field affecting the fluid in response to various aircraft parameters to thereby control the viscosity of the electrorheological or magnetorheological fluid in the chamber and control the amount of damping of the rotating vane.

摘要: A semi-flush air data sensing probe is formed as an elongated bubble housing directly supported on an aircraft surface having a generally longitudinally extending rounded outer edge surface with a rounded contoured leading end. The housing has top and bottom wall surfaces extending from the supporting surface to the rounded outer surface. The trailing end of the housing is smaller than the leading end and is contoured to provide for smooth airflow past the housing. A central longitudinally extending plane that bisects the housing and which is perpendicular to the supporting surface, forms a reference. A forwardly facing port is at the leading end and centered on the central plane, and a pair of angle of attack sensing ports are on the leading end and are symmetrically located on opposite sides of the longitudinally extending plane. A static pressure sensing port also is provided on the housing at a position along the rounded outer edge surface and spaced downstream from the leading end.

The air pressure measurement system having a second sensor positioned in association with the air inlet for detecting air pressure in which the second sensor has a frequency response higher than that of the first sensor. An air data computer is coupled to each of the first and second sensors being configured and operable to calculate a first aircraft movement measurement using detected air pressure from the first sensor and is further operative to determine if the first sensor is faulty or if the air inlet is blocked in dependence upon the frequency content and amplitude of the output from the second sensor.
