    摘要: Disclosed is a release on demand type corrosion inhibitor composition for a metal substrate formed from only non-electrically conductive film forming copolymer(s); a nitrogen containing functional group X, where the group X comprises a pyridine, a dihydropyridine, a pyrrole, an imidazole, or a mixtures thereof; and a metallate anion. The metallate anion binds to a nitrogen in the functional group X by ion pairing. A localized rise in pH is believed to cause release of the anion via a protonation/deprotonation reaction and the released anion suppresses the corrosion formation. The coating composition includes no electrically conductive polymers.

    摘要: Disclosed is a neutral to alkaline inorganic chrome-free conversion coating composition that can be applied directly to a metal surface without a phosphatizing pre-treatment and that provides significant corrosion protection to the surface. The conversion coating composition preferably has a pH of from about 6 to 11 and more preferably from 8 to 10. The coating composition includes at least one element from group IVB of the Periodic table and at least one element from group VB of the Periodic Table. Preferably, the coating composition includes from 1 to 7% by weight of the at least one element from group IVB and from 0.20% to 2.00% by weight of the at least one element from group VB. The conversion coating composition is a dry in place coating and being chrome free it does not have the environmental issues associated with chrome-based coatings. The coating composition is very versatile and can accommodate addition of a wide variety of organic coating resins which can be added directly to the coating composition thus eliminating multistep coating processes.

    摘要: Disclosed is cross-linking process for cross-linking polymeric chains in a coating composition. In one embodiment the process utilizes a Hantzsch dihydropyridine reaction to form reaction products including cross-linking polymeric resin chains having beta-keto ester functions using a source of aldehyde and a source of ammonia or a primary amine to form a permanent dihydropyridine bond between the beta-keto ester functions. The novel cross-linking reaction can occur at lower temperatures compared to typical cross-linking reactions and can occur in aqueous solutions that have a neutral to mildly alkaline pH of from 6 to 11. The novel cross-linking reaction provides many advantages to performing cross-linking of polymeric chains in coating resins.

    摘要: Disclosed is a method for providing an anti-corrosion protective coating to a metal substrate that uses a coating composition comprising a resin and a polyfunctional bridging molecule to both bind to the resin and to chelate the bound polymeric resin directly to the metal substrate. One category of polyfunctional bridging molecules preferably includes at least one amine function to bind to a resin and at least one carboxylate, thiol, silane, phenolate, acetoacetonate, imine, phosphate, or phosphonate function to chelate to a metal substrate. It is theorized that the amine function can bind to certain pendent chains in coating resins through a Michael addition reaction while the carboxylate, thiol, silane, phenolate, acetoacetonate, imine, phosphate, or phosphonate functions chelate to the metal substrate. These polyfunctional bridging molecules provide an organic binding of the resin to the metal substrates.

    摘要: An acid inhibitor concentrate is provided which contains water, at least one polyamino-aldehyde resin such as a quaternized polyethylenepolyamine-glyoxal resin, and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of acetylenic alcohols, ethoxylated fatty amines, ethoxylated fatty amine salts, and aldehyde-releasing compounds (such as hexamethylenetetramine). Such concentrates form useful metal cleaning and pickling solutions when combined with aqueous acid, wherein such solutions, when contacted with a metal surface, are effective in removing scale, smut and other deposits from the metal surface but exhibit a reduced tendency for the aqueous acid to attack or etch the metal itself.
