摘要: A printhead includes a jetting module, deflection mechanism, and catcher. The jetting module includes a linear array of nozzles having a pitch and extending along a length of the jetting module. The jetting module is configured to form drops travelling along a first path from liquid jets emitted from the nozzles. The deflection mechanism is configured to cause selected drops to deviate from the first path and begin travelling along a second path. The catcher, positioned to intercept drops travelling along one of the first and second paths, includes a drop contact surface and a liquid removal conduit connected in fluid communication by a Coanda surface including a radial surface having an array of grooves extending in the same direction as that of the nozzles. The array of grooves has a pitch that is greater than the pitch of the nozzle array.

The deflection mechanism causes selected drops to deviate from the first path to a second path. The array of grooves extends in the same direction as that of the nozzle array. For a given groove, the groove includes a depth that varies along the radial surface as viewed relative to the drop contact surface and a liquid removal conduit surface adjacent to the Coanda surface.

摘要: A group timing delay device shifts the timing of drop formation waveforms supplied to drop formation devices of one of first and second nozzle groups so that print drops from the nozzle groups are not aligned relative to each other along a nozzle array direction. A charging device includes a common charge electrode associated with liquid jets from the nozzle groups and a source of varying electrical potential between the charge electrode and liquid jets which provides a charging waveform that is independent of a print and non-print drop pattern. The charging device is synchronized with the drop formation devices and the group timing delay device to produce a print drop charge state on print drops of a drop pair, a first non-print drop charge state on non-print drops of the drop pair, and a second non-print drop charge state on third drops.

摘要: A method is used to make a laser-ablatable element for direct laser engraving that has a laser-ablatable, relief-forming layer that has a relief-image forming surface and a bottom surface. The relief-forming layer can be prepared by applying multiple formulations. Each formulation comprises a coating solvent, a laser-ablatable polymeric binder, and an infrared radiation absorbing compound. The infrared radiation absorbing compound concentration in the resulting sub-layers is different in each adjacent pair of sub-layers so that the concentration is always greater in each pair sub-layer that is closer to the substrate, and the concentration is progressively greater in the sub-layers as they are closer to the substrate after the coating solvent is removed, wherein the multiple sub-layers provide a relief-forming layer so that the sub-layer farthest from the substrate provides a relief-image forming surface.

摘要: A device and a method of controlling fluid flow are provided. The method includes providing a moving fluid including a fluid flow characteristic; providing a fluid control device including a fluid control surface, the fluid control surface including a pattern that guides the fluid; causing the fluid to contact the fluid control surface of the fluid control device; and causing the fluid to interact with the fluid control surface of the fluid control device by guiding the fluid using the pattern of the fluid control surface while the fluid is in contact with the pattern of the fluid control device such that the fluid flow characteristic of the fluid after interacting with the fluid control surface of the fluid control device is different from the fluid flow characteristic of the fluid before interaction with the fluid control surface of the fluid control device.
