Tape recorder apparatus includes an amplifier section and a tape deck section which is selectively attachable to and detachable from the amplifier section. The amplifier section includes a muting circuit which is connected to an amplifier bias circuit and is adapted to be connected to a switch circuit in the tape deck section when the tape deck section is connected to the amplifier section. When the two sections are connected, the switch circuit supplies a muting release instruction to the muting circuit in the amplifier section for normal amplifying operation and, when the two sections are disconnected from one another, the muting release instruction from the switch circuit in the tape deck section is withheld from the muting circuit in the amplifier section, thus disabling the amplifying function of the amplifier section by causing a change in the bias potential supplied by the amplifier bias circuit. Accordingly, a loudspeaker which may be connected as an output load on the amplifier section will not reproduce electrical noises caused when input circuitry of the amplifier section is disconnected from a magnetic head of the tape deck section each time the tape deck section is detached from the amplifier section.

A one-chip microcomputer system includes a one-chip microcomputer, a nonvolatile memory which can electrically rewritably store changing data of a program stored in a mask ROM of the one-chip microcomputer, an input unit (connection unit) for receiving data to be written in the nonvolatile memory from an external device, and an object to be controlled by the one-chip microcomputer. In one aspect, the nonvolatile memory has first and second correction data areas, and first and second memories for respectively designating these areas. Upon reception of an initialization signal from the external device connected to the input unit, only the second memory for designating the second correction data area is initialized. In another aspect, the mask ROM stores ROM version data, and the nonvolatile memory stores board version data. Upon writing of the data via the input unit, bug correction data is selected based on the ROM version data and the board version data, and the selected data is written in the nonvolatile memory. In still another aspect, the nonvolatile memory has a first area for storing data for correcting a bug in the program, a second area for storing data for changing a specification of the object to be controlled, and a third area for determining whether or not data are stored in the first and second areas.

A tape recorder wherein a control transistor is connected between a power source and a load circuit involving, for example, a motor circuit, mechanism control circuit and amplifier; and automatic shut-off circuit is connected in parallel to the load circuit. The automatic shut-off circuit is arranged to render the control transistor conductive at the time of power supply; and nonconductive when a terminal end of the tape is detected. A single-pole double-throw switch is provided which is only required to have a small current capacity, and has a movable contact connected to a power source, a first stationary contact connected to the voltage-detecting terminal of the automatic shut-off circuit and a second stationary contact connected to the base of the control transistor.

A tape recorder capable of sounding an alarm which indicates the end of run of a tape, includes a tape recorder control circuit which sends a first signal for effecting tape end muting and for sounding an end alarm. The first signal is supplied to a speaker through a power amplifier. The alarm issued from the speaker is sensed by a microphone and later acoustically fed back to the power amplifier through a microphone amplifier. The microphone amplifier has its gain substantially reduced to zero upon generation of the first signal. Even though an audible alarm is sounded, howling which may otherwise arise from the acoustic feedback of the alarm sound, is suppressed.
