THIS INVENTION RELATES TO CYCLOBUTANE DIOL POLYESTERSUBSTITUTED ORGANSILICON COMPOSITIOS CHARACTERIZED BY A POLYMERIC SEGMENT OR BLOCK THAT IS COMPOED OF RECURRING CYCLOBUTYLENE GROUPS LINKED TO EACH OTHER THROUGH CARBONATE LINKAGES (-OCOO-) OR DI(CARBONYLOXY)HYDROCARBYLENE LINKAGES AND THAT IS CHEMICALLY BONDED TO A SILICON ATOM. THE NOVEL COMPOSITIONS HAVE A SILICON-CONTAINING SEGMENT DERIVED FROM A SILANE OR A SILOXANE. IN THE LATTER CASE, THE COMPOSITION ARE BLOCK COPOLYMERS. THE COMPOSITIONS ARE STABLE TO HEAT AND LIGHT AND ARE USEFUL AS PROTECTIVE COATINGS, MOLDING ESINS AND ELASTOMERS.

THIS INVENTION RELATES TO THERMOPLASTIC SILOXANE-POLYESTER BLOCK COPOLYMERS HAVING SIOLOXANE BLOCKS THAT ARE LINEAR AND CONTAIN DIHYDROCARBYLSIOLOXANE GROUPS AND POLYESTER BLOCKS THAT ARE LINEAR AND CONTAIN GROUPS DERIVED FROM AROMATIC DICARBOXYLIC ACIDS AND DIOLS. THE BLOCK COPOLYMERS OF THIS INVENTION ARE ELASTOMERIC OR RIGID, DEPENDING ON THEIR SPECIFIC COMPOSITION, EVEN THROUGH THERMOPLASTIC AND HAVE EXCEPTIONAL THERMAL AND OXIDATIVE STABILITY. THE BLOCK COPOLYMERS ARE USEFUL, FOR EXAMPLE, AS MOLDING RESINS AND EXTRUDING RESINS.
