A diagnostic system for a lubrication circuit of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle. The system includes a viscometer for detecting the viscosity of a lubricating liquid of the lubrication circuit, a temperature sensor for detecting the temperature of the lubricating liquid, and a control unit to acquire the state of the lubricating liquid, given by the viscosity detected for a given lubricating liquid condition, which includes the lubricating liquid temperature and the date of last replacement of the lubricating liquid, and for a given condition of use of the engine, and to assess the state of the lubricating liquid by comparing the detected viscosity of the lubricating liquid with the viscosity reference values stored in the database in the same or similar condition of lubricating liquid temperature, date of last replacement of the lubricating liquid and use of the engine.

Method for controlling the supply of oil to an internal combustion engine, comprising a procedure for detecting a potentially dangerous condition for the correct operation of an internal combustion engine (1). Said condition is the clogging of an oil filter (3) upstream of the engine (1) or the excessive presence of fuel in the lubricant oil. The detection procedure comprises the steps of: changing the flow rate of oil that transits through the filter (3) and that is processed by a pump (2) for lubricating the engine (1); detecting the time that passes between changing the oil flow rate and a detection of a pre-established variation in a parameter connected at least with the pressure downstream of said filter (3), said variation being determined by said change of the flow rate, said filter (3) being placed upstream of the engine (1); comparing said time with pre-established values.

A rotary positive displacement pump for fluids, in particular, for the lubrication of a motor vehicle engine (61), has a displacement that can be regulated through the rotation of a stator ring (42) having an eccentric cavity (43) in which the rotor (15) of the pump (1) rotates. The stator ring (42) is housed within an in eccentric cavity (13) of an external ring (12). A rotor actuator (50), controlled by the electronic control unit of the motor vehicle, causes a synchronous rotation by an equal amount in opposite directions of both rings. A method of regulating the displacement of the pump (1) and lubrication system for a motor vehicle engine in which the pump is used are also provided.
