摘要: Various embodiments are described for signaling an ad-hoc group of mobile units (MUs). The ad-hoc group may be a group of MUs for which signaling awaits transmission via a wireless communication resource (111). Signaling such a group involves deriving a mobile unit group identifier (MUGI) by combining individual mobile unit identifiers (MUIs) of the targeted ad-hoc group. The individual MUIs are either an identifier of each MU or derived from an identifier of each MU. The derived MUGI is then included in combined signaling that is transmitted (by RAN 121, e.g.) via the wireless communication resource. A receiving MU (101) determines whether the MUGI could have been derived from its MUI in combination with at least one other MU's MUI. When it determines that the MUGI could have been derived from its MUI, the receiving MU processes the signaling as directed to itself.

摘要: A communication system provides network-based battery power management that may be transparent to a user of a mobile station (MS). When one or more elements of a network of the communication system determines that the MS is operating at a low power supply charge level and/or has experienced a significant change in a charging level of the power supply, the one or more network elements may arrange for postponement of delivery of a delay-tolerant service to the MS or for adjustment of one or more of a characteristic of a service provided to the MS and a parameter of a radio communication with the MS, including restoration of full services to an MS whose power supply charge level has been restored.

摘要: Various embodiments are described herein to address the need for reducing call setup delays with respect to supplemental channels. Modifications to channel assignment messaging (104), such as an enhanced ECAM, and service connection messaging (108), such as an enhanced SCM, are described. These modifications enable the assignment of SCHs (110) earlier in the call setup sequence. In addition, embodiments for determining and anticipating when such modified messaging may effectively speed the transfer of data (including VOIP) between a BS (201) and an MS (210) are described.

摘要: A communication system provides one or more of congestion information and subscriber information to a broadcast applications server when the server receives a request to start a broadcast-multicast service in a coverage area. By providing the one or more of congestion information and subscriber information to the server, the server is able to make an informed, intelligent decision concerning blocking, unblocking, downgrading, or upgrading a broadcast-multicast flow of multiple broadcast-multicast flows requested for delivery to, or currently delivered to, the coverage area via a serving base station, and/or whether to add a new broadcast-multicast flow to the broadcast-multicast flows delivered to the coverage area.

摘要: A method and apparatus for creating a semi-active state that reduces channel establishment delay. A communication channel between a mobile station (402) and a radio access network (RAN) (404). The communication channel has a semi-active state between the mobile station and the RAN by preassigning at least one resource to identify the communication channel. In To determine whether the channel is to be made active, the preassigned resource is monitor. When resource indicates that data is to be sent, the channel is converted from the semi-active state to an active state. Data is then transmitted over the communication channel in the active state.

摘要: The need to reduce the cost associated with signaling mobiles (120) across multiple cells (101-108) is addressed by embodiments of the present invention. A targeted MS is initially paged only in those cells in which the paging channel loading level is below a particular paging threshold. Similarly for short messaging, the RAN transmits the short messaging to the MS only in those cells in which the paging channel loading level is below a short messaging threshold. Therefore, the MS can be signaled in under-loaded cells first, were the effect on system capacity and performance is negligible. When successful, the MS signaling is achieved at a lower cost to the system than when loaded cells are involved.

摘要: In general, paging-related delays are reduced by empowering an idle mobile (120) to initiate a transition to semi-dormant, unslotted mode, and/or RSCI modes, based on triggers (304) known to the MS. This is an efficient manner (in terms of both RF and battery-life cost considerations) in which to use semi-dormant and RSCI modes (306). If the MS (120) is able to anticipate a paging channel (PCH) message (for example, after sending or receiving an SMS or presence update), then the MS can intelligently reduce its slot cycle index for a short period of time, sacrificing a small amount of battery life, when the R-SCI is most likely to deliver improved service. Moreover, if the MS is low mobility (i.e. low idle handoff rate), then the MS can transition to a semi-dormant mode with very little cost, since it will not need to send many radio environment reports.

摘要: Various embodiments are described for providing a list-based service. One group of embodiments involves receiving a subscription to a list to which multiple list members are associated and then providing a notification when an aggregated state of the list satisfies a condition. The aggregated state of the list is based on at least a portion of the state information that pertains to each of the list members. Another group of embodiments involves sending (603) a subscription to a list to which multiple list members are associated and then receiving (605) a notification when an aggregated state of the list satisfies a condition. List-based services, such as presence, can benefit from notifications that are based on a list's aggregated state satisfying some condition.
