Abstract:
Benzene is admixed and reacted continuously with a mixed acid containing 3-7.5% nitric acid, 58.5-66.5% sulfuric acid, and 28-37% water under pressure sufficient to maintain benzene in liquid state until complete conversion of nitric acid is achieved to provide mononitrobenzene containing less than 500 ppm dinitrobenzene.
Abstract:
The wash liquor resulting from the nitration of aromatic compounds is contacted with a quantity of the same aromatic compound being nitrated and the resultant solution is recycled to the nitration process.
Abstract:
An adiabatic process for the mononitration of nitratable aromatic hydrocarbons and halo substituted aromatic hydrocarbons which yield a mononitration product containing less than 500 ppm. of dinitrated product is disclosed.
