Abstract: A method for erecting a wind turbine tower is disclosed. A tower section (8) comprising a lower flange (9) and an upper flange (10), and a plurality of stud bolts (6) and nuts (7) are provided. The tower section (8) is oriented in an upright position with the lower flange (9) below the upper flange (10), and stud bolts (6) are positioned in bolt holes (12) in the lower flange (9) with nuts (7) arranged on an upper side of the lower flange (9). The tower section (8) is lifted to a mounting position on top of another tower section (13), and a flange combination is formed by aligning the bolt holes (12) formed in the lower flange (9) of the tower section (8) with bolt holes (15) formed in an upper flange (14) of the other tower section (13), while advancing the stud bolts (6) through the bolt holes (12, 15). The invention further provides a socket tool (16) for screwing nuts (7) onto stud bolts (6) in a manner which positions the stud bolts (6) correctly with respect to a flange (9).

Abstract: A method of assembling a wind turbine tower section (12a) from a plurality of tower segments (22) includes providing the plurality of tower segments (22) to a wind turbine installation site (32), forming a tower section frame assembly (96) by connecting at least two tower segments (22a, 22b) with a support beam (72), wherein the tower section frame assembly (96) forms a framework on which to further assemble the tower section (12a), arranging the tower section frame assembly (96) on an assembly stand (42), and attaching the remaining plurality of tower segments (22c-22h) to the tower section frame assembly (96) to form the tower section (12a). A method of preinstalling splice plates (106) on the tower segments (22a-22h) for guiding or assembly simplification purposes is also disclosed. The splice plates (106) may be preinstalled from the factory or at the installation site (32).

Abstract: A tool assembly (1) for tensioning tower bolts (12) of a wind turbine tower is disclosed. The tool assembly (1) comprises a connecting arrangement (2, 13, 14) configured to connect the tool assembly (1) to a part of a wind turbine tower, and a tool holding part (3) arranged to hold a tool (5) for tensioning tower bolts (12). The tool holding part (3) is attached to the connecting arrangement (2, 13, 14) in a rotatable manner, thereby allowing the tool (5) to be rotated between at least a first orientation and a second orientation. The connecting arrangement (2, 13, 14) may retain the tool assembly (1) relative to a tower wall by means of a magnet (17).
