Detection and indication of inaccessible resources associated with a webpage is disclosed. Dependent resource identifiers are generated. The identifiers facilitate the query of a resource database to ascertain the status of dependent resources. The status of the dependent resources facilitates the marking of the resources in the webpage, and/or the generation of a report that indicates the status of dependent resources. An interface is provided so an author may easily ascertain the status of a dependent resource before publication of a webpage. In this manner, an author may easily and efficiently ascertain dependent resources that are subject to security right issues and/or versioning issues before publishing a webpage.

Reusable content fragments are managed in a web site. The reusable content fragments are saved in a reusable content library in response to the fragments being created in a web page of the web site. When the web page is rendered for viewing, the reusable content fragment is rendered according to a first format when the web page is rendered for the author of the page. Correspondingly, the reusable content fragment is rendered according to a second format when the web page is rendered for another user. The reusable content fragment may be inserted into other web pages of the web site from the reusable content library.

A publishing interface is provided for a user to publish content to a content management server (CMS). The content is authored on a work station by way of an authoring application operating thereon and includes a main body and at least one linked object. Each linked object is linked to the main body by a local pointer therein. The CMS is for effectuating a web site including the published content. The publishing interface has a client-side component working with the application and a server-side component working with the CMS. The client-side component resolves each local pointer to a linked object in the main body, converts the main body into a pre-determined format as determined by the selected task, and forwards the converted main body and each linked object thereof to the server-side component. The server-side component stores the converted main body and the linked objects in the CMS.
