Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to recognizing a violation of an expected write amplification (WAF) rate and informing a host device of the violation so that the host device may take corrective action and ensure the data storage device does not reach end of life (EOL) earlier than expected. The host can provide the data storage device with an expected lifetime and may additionally provide a benchmark WAF rate. The data storage device compares the actual WAF rate to the benchmark WAF rate and notifies the host device of any violation where the actual WAF rate exceeds the benchmark WAF rate.

Abstract: A storage device with a memory may have a hidden diagnostic partition that can only be accessed during debug or diagnostic mode. Debug or diagnostic mode allows a host device to access the debug or diagnostic analysis (e.g. error logs) stored in the hidden diagnostic partition. By default, the hidden diagnostic partition is invisible to the host. When accessed through a triggering event, such as a vendor specific command (“VSC”), the hidden diagnostic partition can be used to report debug and error events.

Abstract: A data storage device comprising a non-volatile storage medium configured to store user data, a data port configured to receive and transmit data between a host computer system and the data storage device, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive, via the data port, a write command comprising a read restriction indication, receive, via the data port, data and write the data to an address of the non-volatile storage medium. The controller is further configured to determine an occurrence of a read restriction event, and in response to the occurrence of the read restriction event and in response to the read restriction indication, erase the data from the address of the non-volatile storage medium.
