    摘要: A system and method in a network-based telephone system for simulating a typical plain old telephone system (POTS) connection by generating sounds in response to conditions in the telephone connection that simulate POTS sounds that occur during the typical POTS connection. Telephones in a network-based telephone system are connected to a wide-area network (WAN) such as the Internet via an Internet telephony gateway. A calling telephone connects to the local exchange carrier to permit a user to connect to a calling Internet telephony gateway by dialing an access telephone number. The calling Internet telephony gateway receives access information and the destination telephone number and uses the destination telephone number to determine the Internet telephony gateway that is closest to the called telephone with the destination telephone number. The calling Internet telephony gateway connects to the called Internet telephony gateway which connects to the called telephone number. During the setup of the connection, the calling Internet telephony gateway generates dialing sounds to the calling telephone. The Internet telephony gateway may also generate busy signals, fast busy signals, click sounds and comfort noise sounds to provide the caller with a POTS feel.

    摘要: Techniques to provide active lighting control for video teleconferencing systems are described. In an embodiment, a video teleconferencing (TVC) device receives lighting data from cameras in a room where a VTC is taking place. The VTC device may access lighting profiles for the lights in the room from a lighting control system. The VTC device may compare the current lighting conditions to a target model. The VTC device may use the lighting profiles to select lights to turn on or off via the lighting control system to improve the lighting. The VTC device may monitor the lighting conditions during the conference and may re-adjust the lights if a large change occurs. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

    摘要: A communication access chassis having a general purpose computing platform provides communication access between remote users and computer network via the public telephone network. The general purpose computing platform is connected to an internal chassis bus complex transmitting incoming calls between a telephone line interface and a signal conversion system and between the signal conversion system and a local area network interface. The computing platform has a conventional microprocessor and local or peripheral memory storage devices and implements a commercially available open network operating system such as Windows NT™. By virtue of the ability of the general purpose computing platform to run network server programs locally, i.e., in the communication chassis, server functionality that has been provided only by remote computers on a local area network in the prior art is incorporated into the communications chassis itself, providing for improved network management, increased network security and reduced access and processing time, all in a manner transparent to the remote user.
