The colophony rosins which have been esterified with a tertiary amino alcohol are disclosed. These colophony rosins which are normally also reinforced with formaldehyde and/or an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carbonyl compounds are useful in the form of an aqueous dispersion as a paper sizing agent. Disclosed are processes for the formation of such colophony rosins and paper sizing agents containing the same as well as papers so sized.
