Abstract:
Systems and methods for extended gamut printing. A print job is received into a print engine having a processor and a limited number of receptacles for colorant extension attachments that can be used in addition to a standard color gamut. The processor analyzes a page of the print job for the color gamut and for the color gamut with each possible gamut extension colorant. The processor calculates gamut distances for the color of each pixel outside of the color gamut for every gamut colorant extension. The gamut distances are the distances from the color of the pixel to a boundary of the color gamut. The processor calculates a sum of the gamut distances. For each pixel on the page outside of the color gamut, the processor selects an extension colorant attachment to attach to the limited physical receptacles based on having the greatest sum of the gamut distances.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for color conversion used in image-processing. In one approach, a caching strategy can be employed rather than a direct computation or a precomputed table. To improve the hit frequency and reduce storage requirements, a hash calculation in addition to comparison operations can be processed as a “near match” rather than an exact match. In another approach, “fuzzy match” caching can be implemented to reach the proper vicinity in the n-dimensional space, and then interpolation (or extrapolation) can refine the result.
Abstract:
A system and method adaptively lossy compresses image data by receiving a pixel of image data and meta data indicating a type of object that generated the pixel of image data, the pixel of image data includes a first byte having most significant bits of image data and a second byte having least significant bits of image data; electronically determining if the meta data associated with the pixel of image data is associated with a noisy image or indicates that the pixel of image data was generated by a specific type of object; electronically modifying the pixel of image data, when it is determined that the meta data is associated with the pixel of image data is associated with a noisy image or indicates that the pixel of image data was generated by a specific type of object, by setting a predetermined number of low bits of the pixel of image data to zero.
Abstract:
A system and method for automatic selection of at least one spot color to be processed by a digital image press includes identifying process colorants to determine principal and extended gamuts thereof. Spot color recipes of the principal and extended gamuts are retrieved from a spot color library, along with a set of attributes corresponding to use of colorants by the digital image press. For each spot color recipe, a combined attribute score is calculated relating to the principal gamut and the extended gamut, spot color recipe of the extended gamut or principal gamut is then identified for use based upon which has the higher combined attribute score. The spot color library is then updated in accordance with the identified recipe for production of each spot color. Print jobs are then output with the appropriate spot color recipe automatically selected.
