Abstract: A method of proximity sensing which comprises emitting light from an emitter and detecting reflected light, applying an offset to the detected reflected light to provide an output signal indicative of proximity, determining an average signal of the output signal; determining whether drift has occurred by comparing the output signal to a first threshold and comparing the average signal to a different threshold, and adjusting the offset if drift is identified.

Abstract: A proximity sensing device is disclosed comprising: a radiation emitter; a radiation sensor configured to sense a reflected radiation from the radiation emitter; a memory for storing a plurality of ambient radiation level ranges and a plurality of coefficients that map onto the plurality of ambient radiation level ranges; and processing circuitry configured to compensate an output from the radiation sensor for crosstalk by subtracting from the output a measured ambient radiation level scaled by either: a coefficient selected from the plurality of coefficients; or a value derived from the plurality of coefficients. A proximity sensing method and a proximity sensing calibration method are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method for light-to-frequency conversion comprises the steps of illuminating a photodiode by a light source, generating a photocurrent by means of the photodiode, converting the photocurrent into a digital comparator output signal depending on a first clock signal, generating a first count comprising an integer number of counts, where the generation of the first count depends on the first clock signal, generating a second count which relates to the time interval between at least two counts of the first count, and determining the frequency of a repeating pattern in the intensity of electromagnetic radiation emitted by the light source and detected by the photodiode from the first count and the second count. Furthermore, a light-to-frequency converter arrangement is provided.
