    摘要: In various embodiments, a system provides multi network connectivity between a broadband, packet-switched wireless Radio Access Network (RAN) and first and second different wireless networks using a broadband transceiver configured to receive and transmit packet-switched data over the RAN. First and second transceivers with respective data interfaces with the broadband transceiver are configured to establish a first and second wireless networks using different communications protocols. A processor and associated memory are operatively coupled together to at least control the broadband transceiver, the first transceiver, and the second transceiver. A communications range of the first and second wireless networks are extended beyond a respective intrinsic data communications capability thereof via the broadband transceiver. The system and method may be implemented to improve in-building wireless coverage, or to provide real-time content to mobile users, e.g., in an automobile, and/or to provide real-time vehicle diagnostic codes to a maintenance support node.

    摘要: Methods and systems for performing hybrid automatic repeat request (ARQ) in conjunction with broadcast/multicast channels are presented. In particular, an access node may transmit a series of hybrid ARQ subpackets to one or more client nodes using a broadcast/multicast channel. Each of the subpackets may be derived from the same full packet. Upon receiving a subpacket, a client node may attempt to decode the full packet from the subpacket(s) derived from the full packet. If the client node fails to do so, the client node may transmit a negative acknowledgement to the access node. If the access node receives more than a threshold extent of negative acknowledgements, the access node may transmit a subsequent subpacket in the series on the broadcast/multicast channel.

A time interval is established for a wireless device timer at the wireless device upon establishing the network connection and a time interval is established for an access node timer at the access node upon establishing the network connection. When a repeat request acknowledgement message is received during the communication session, the time interval for the wireless device timer and the time interval for the access node timer is restarted.

Specifically, in an exemplary embodiment, a WiMAX communication system that is configured to provide service at a plurality of quality of service (QoS) levels, may be configured to (a) broadcast a QoS level message in a downlink sub-frame, wherein the QoS level message comprises one or more spreading factor codes, and wherein each spreading factor code indicates a spreading factor for a particular QoS level, (b) receive a ranging request from a device, wherein the ranging request comprises an orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF) code, wherein the OVSF code was selected according to the one or more spreading factor codes, (c) determine a spreading factor of the OVSF code in the received ranging request, and (d) use the spreading factor as a basis for selecting a QoS level at which to provide service to the device.

An overload control mechanism identifies an instance of use to eliminate from among a plurality of instances of use in a wireless coverage area. In an overload situation, the overload control mechanism may, for each instance of use, determine a respective ratio of the value of instance of use to the quantity of resource consumed by the instance of use. The overload control mechanism may then sort the instances of use in order of determined ratios to produce a sorted order of the instances of use. The overload control mechanism may select as many instances of use as possible, such that the total amount of resources consumed by the selected instances of use is as high as possible without exceeding the threshold load, and then the overload control mechanism may eliminate the remaining instances of use.

When a communication link with a first base station using a first communication protocol is broken, and a communication link established with a second base station, the mobile device stores the communication data related to the prior communication link and stores it in association with the current communication link. At some future time, the mobile device may establish a communication link with the second base station. The mobile device can check the stored data to see if there is a an alternative network connection in the proximity of the current connection. If so, the mobile device may activate the radio for communication with first base station and actively attempt to establish a communication link based on the proximity data recalled from storage in the mobile device.

    摘要: Methods and systems are provided for using base-station location to assist mobile-device system acquisition. A mobile station, which stores a network identifier, selects a carrier frequency. The mobile station receives, from a base station on a first carrier frequency, geographic coordinates of the base station and a base-station network identifier, and determines whether the base-station network identifier matches the mobile-station network identifier. If the base-station network identifier matches the mobile-station network identifier, the mobile station will scan the indicated home frequency bands and will connect to one of the home frequencies, and if the base-station network identifier does not match the mobile-station network identifier, the geographic coordinates of the base station are used to identify a market area and a most-preferred carrier frequency is selected from the identified market area.
