Abstract: A seat assembly includes a seat frame, a back frame 320 defining a back plane pivotally connected to the seat frame at a pivot joint, a back support 310 slideably secured to the back frame, and a back support adjusting mechanism. The back support adjusting mechanism includes a first linking member 355 coupling the back support to the seat frame and pivotable about the pivot axis, and a first slide member 351 slideably supported by the back frame and operatively connected to the first linking member. A second slide member 354a is affixed to the back support and slideably supported by the back frame. A second linking member 352 operatively connects the first and second slide members. Pivoting movement of the back frame from the upright position to the reclined position slides the first slide member away from the pivot axis, causing the second linking member to slide the back support toward the pivot axis.

Abstract: A conveyance such as a wheelchair that includes a seat assembly and a chassis. The chassis comprises a central frame member disposed substantially along the centerline of the wheelchair. The central frame member includes portions for connecting to or supporting one or more front casters, a seat assembly, one or more drive wheel assemblies, an energy source (e.g., one or more batteries), rear anti-tip wheels, and/or at least one footplate. The central frame member is disposed substantially along the centerline of the wheelchair and structurally distributes of the weight of the seat assembly (and optionally the weight of the energy source) to the supporting drive wheels and casters. In this manner, a clean-looking, simple, and lightweight chassis structure is provided for a conveyance.

Abstract: An exercycle (10) having a generally continuous U-shaped frame (12) with two upwardly extending posts (14, 16) bridged by a substantially linear connecting portion (18) positioned closely to and paralleling the floor. A seat (24) is attached to the end of one of the posts (16) and handlebars (20) are secured to the end of the other post (14). Pedals (84, 86) are affixed to the seat post (16) between the seat (24) and the connecting portions (18) of the frame (12). A wheel (88) is disposed rearwardly of the seat post (16). A drive mechanism (91, 92) coupled between the pedals (84, 86) and the wheel (88) serves to impart rotational movement to the wheel (88) when the pedals (84, 86) are moved by the user. The exercycle construction provides an unobstructed passageway between the handlebars (20) and the seat (24) to facilitate easy mounting and dismounting of the apparatus by the user. The handlebars (20) and seat (24) are provided with unique adjustment assemblies that can be used without needing tools. Structure (64) is also disclosed for adjusting the pedalling tension.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a control system for a power wheelchair is provided allowing a user to change the type of input control device throughout a day, week, month, and/or year as their physical and/or mental condition changes. This includes changing input controls from proportional to switch-type devices. A user may start the day when they are not tired with a proportional input control device like a proportional joystick. Then, as the day progresses and the user begins to experience fatigue or exhaustion, the user can change to a switch-type control device requiring less control and dexterity (e.g., less strength and energy) to effectively control the power wheelchair. The user can also start the day with a 4, 3, or 2 switch direction input control and later change to a single switch input control device with scanning. Other combinations are also possible.
