摘要： A container made of thermoplastic material such as PET includes a bottom portion, a neck portion, and an intermediate body portion including at least two circumferential rows of panels for providing controlled volumetric reduction of the container. A land separates each adjacent pair of panels in each row. The rows of panels are staggered with respect to each other such that the lands of one row are vertically aligned with the panels of any adjacent row. The design distributes circumferentially the vertical and horizontal support for any label applied to the label panel of the container while still providing the desired panel movement in response to the existence of a partial vacuum within the container due to hot filling.

摘要： A blow-molded bottle of thermoplastic resin has a hollow body with a generally cylindrical side wall rotationally symmetric about a longitudinal axis of the bottle and an integral base merging with the side wall. The base is defined by an outer surface having a plurality of arcuately extending downward projections separated from each other by hemispherical segments extending from the cylindrical side wall to the longitudinal axis of the bottle. Each of the arcuately extending downward projections has a first inclined portion contiguous to the longitudinal axis, a second inclined portion situated radially outside of, and axially displaced downwardly from, the first inclined portion, a generally perpendicular ring segment having an upper edge united with the first inclined portion by a curved portion having a radius of between about 0.015 in. and 0.060 in., and a lower edge united with the second inclined portion. A radially outwardly and upwardly curved portion defining the axially lower most extent of each downward projection has an inner edge united with the second inclined portion. An inclined outer wall portion having an upper edge united with the cylindrical side wall has a lower edge united with the radially outwardly and upwardly curved portion. Slanted radial facets merge the sides of the arcuately extending downward projections with the hemispherical segments extending from the cylindrical side wall to the longitudinal axis of the bottle.

摘要： A method for applying a PVDC polymer coating to the outside of a PET parison includes deionizing the surface of the parison, dipping the parison into an aqueous PVDC dispersion, withdrawing the parison at a controlled rate to prevent slubbing of the polymer coating, and drying the coating by exposure to desiccated air. The method dramatically reduces the energy requirements for coating operations yet produces a finished biaxially oriented PET container having superior gas barrier characteristics.

摘要： A plastic container, especially well suited for carbonated beverage bottles, with a specially designed bottom to minimize stress and improve parison blowing is disclosed. The bottom end has a modified hemispherical shape contiguous with the sidewalls and a continuous seating ring, for stably supporting the bottle on a flat surface which is of convex annular shape and positioned between the seating ring and a center portion is an intermediate portion. The intermediate portion consists of two truncated cones defining an excluded volume. The first truncated cone has a generatrix of about 18.degree. and the second truncated cone has a generatrix of about 55.degree.. The excluded volume defined by the first and second truncated cones is increased by an odd number of equally sized and equally spaced semi-ellipsoid shaped portions. The center portion is convex and particularly designed for positioning the parison in the mold for blow molding.
