The sensing system includes: a plurality of sensors embedded in the cover, the sensors configured to sense an operating parameter of the roll; and a signal-carrying member serially connected with and extending between the plurality of sensors. The signal-carrying member follows a helical path over the outer surface of the shell, wherein the signal-carrying member extends between adjacent sensors and extends over more than one complete revolution of the shell outer surface (and, preferably, an intermediate segment of the signal-carrying member extends over more than a full revolution of the roll between adjacent sensors).

    摘要: A method of producing an endless belt includes the steps of: securing axial fibers relative to a mandrel, the axial fibers being spaced apart from one another at desired intervals and extending substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the mandrel; applying a polymeric base layer to the mandrel in a thickness sufficient to embed the axial fibers; wrapping circumferential fibers onto the polymeric base layer with sufficient tension to partially embed the circumferential fibers in the polymeric base layer; applying a polymeric top stock layer over the polymeric base layer and circumferential fibers; and curing the base layer and the top stock layer. This method can improve productivity and performance of endless belts, particularly if the wrapping and latter applying steps closely follow the first applying step.

The processor is configured to convert the signals from the sensor units into nip condition readings for the multiple circumferential locations at each axial location. Such a system can detect irregularities in a roll or the mating structure that can cause undesired vibration.

The sensing system comprises: a plurality of sensors embedded in the cover, the sensors configured to detect an operating parameter of the roll and provide signals representative of the operating parameter, wherein one of the plurality of sensors is a tracking sensor and the remaining sensors are non-tracking sensors; and a processor operatively associated with the sensors that processes signals provided by the sensors. The sensors are arranged at a substantially equal radial distance from the core outer surface, such that they define a circle when viewed from an end of the roll. Each of the non-tracking sensors is further arranged at a substantially equal first angular distance from its immediate non-tracking sensor neighbors, two endmost non-tracking sensors defining an angular gap. The tracking sensor is disposed in the angular gap, such that a second angular distance defined by the tracking sensor and either of the endmost sensors differs from the first angular distance. In this configuration, the sensing system can identify from which sensor signals are generated without a trigger signal generator or accelerometer.
