    摘要： A machine for making cigarette filters and which includes a forming beam having an internal channel whose transverse cross section changes shape along the main longitudinal direction of the channel. Porous conveyor means carry the tow along a feed path in the channel complying with the shape thereof and thereby being wrapped around the tow. At least one treatment station located along the feed path includes a nozzle for blowing a flow of steam into the channel. The nozzle includes a plurality of planar sectors positioned transversely to the channel and defining an overall planar flow orifice placed directly in communication with a steam feed duct. Each planar sector defines a respective planar flow orifice and at least two flow orifices have different thicknesses.

    摘要： The invention relates to a method for adjusting the diameter of an elongated rod, said method comprising: providing an elongated rod having a preliminary diameter; selecting a desired final diameter of the elongated rod; providing a diameter adjusting device including a first tubular element having an inlet and an outlet and a channel connecting the inlet and the outlet; adjusting the diameter of the outlet as a function of the desired final diameter of the elongated rod, wherein the diameter of the inlet is bigger than the diameter of the outlet when adjusted; and inserting the elongated rod in the diameter adjusting device from the inlet and outputting it from the outlet so that said elongated rod is compressed to the desired final diameter when outputted from the outlet of the first tubular element.

    摘要： A filter manufacturing machine includes a forming device for forming filter tow into a hollow rod-shaped continuous filter body, a forming tube included in the forming device and having a tubular forming path through which the filter tow is passed while being brought together, a mandrel arranged in the forming tube and forming the tubular forming path in cooperation with the forming tube, and a heat treating section included in the forming tube and configured to heat the filter tow while the filter tow passes through the tubular forming path. The mandrel has a small-diameter portion located at the inlet of the forming tube, a large-diameter portion located at the outlet of the forming tube, and a diameter expansion portion located between the small- and large-diameter portions. The diameter expansion portion is located downstream of the heat treating section as viewed in the moving direction of the filter tow.

    摘要： Apparatus and method are provided for supplying cellulose acetate tow for the manufacture of cigarette filters from the transport jet of a tow opener to a cigarette filter rodmaking garniture. The apparatus is a frustoconical member having a multiplicity of apertures in the wall thereof and is attached directly to the transport jet. The apparatus has an internal diameter the same size as the exit opening of the transport jet. The opposite end of the adapter is inserted into the tow intake of the garniture. Transport gas that is introduced by the transport jet escapes through apertures in the adapter wall as the tow enters the garniture intake. A closely fitting rotatable sleeve having apertures in the wall thereof can be used to reduce the escape of transport gas through the adapter wall for optimizing performance of the adapter with tows of various processing characteristics. Tow yield is improved and pressure drop variability is reduced.

    摘要： Self-sustaining, dimensionally stable, axially elongated fibrous bodies of suitable cross-sectional size and shape for use as cigarette filters are produced from a bondable continuous filamentary tow of substantially continuous thermoplastic fibers. The fibers within the filter body are oriented in an adjacent and overlapping relation to one another in generally successive layers extending generally transverse to the longitudinal axis of the filter. During fabrication the filter is passed through a cooling station of reduced cross-section so that the radially peripheral edges of the fibers are bent backward and overlap to form a smooth peripheral surface to which tip-wrap material can readily adhere without the need for a plug wrap or for coating the filter.
