Abstract: A cot includes a patient platform that supports a frame, a patient support assembly, and a pad. The cot further includes a lift system that is coupled to a transport system that includes a cot retainer. The patient support assembly includes a headrest, backrest, seat, and leg rest. In some forms, a child restraint assembly is incorporated into the various parts of the patient support assembly to allow safe transport of children in an ambulance. The child restraint assembly is adjustable to accommodate the size of the child being transported. In other forms, the child restraint assembly is incorporated into the pad. The various embodiments envision a child restraint assembly that is easily accessible to emergency medical professionals.

Abstract: A cover system for selectively blocking insertion of unauthorized objects through an aperture of a restraint mount of a patient support apparatus is provided. The cover system includes a cover and an instrument having an interface. The cover includes a brace and a restrictor coupled to the brace. The brace attaches to the patient support apparatus adjacent to the aperture and the restrictor operates in a restrict mode blocks access to the aperture and a permit mode where the restrictor permits access to the aperture. The cover also includes a lock mechanism, which includes a keeper movable between a locked state where movement of the restrictor is inhibited and an unlocked state where movement of the restrictor is permitted. The keeper moves from the locked state to the unlocked state in response to selective engagement between the interface of the instrument and a receiver of the lock mechanism.

Abstract: An insertion tongue for a belt retaining system in patient transport displays a tongue plate with a belt duct and a belt surround bar opposite the belt duct, around which, in use, a belt is placed and which is displaceably supported transversely to its longitudinal direction. The belt surround bar has two bars parallel to one another, with one or more rotatable rollers or pulleys being arranged on the bar which is outer in relation to the insertion tongue.

Abstract: A transfer system includes an air-bearing support with first and second longitudinal sections. A port is provided in flow communication with the first and second longitudinal sections, and configured for inflation of the air-bearing support for transfer of a patient or other body. A selective coupling extends between the first and second longitudinal sections, adapted to attach the first and second sections together for transfer of the body on the air-bearing support, and to at least partially detach the first and second longitudinal sections for separation and removal, e.g., upon deflation of the patient support, after the transfer is accomplished.

Abstract: A patient evacuation sled has a bottom plastic sheet and a foam layer disposed thereabove. At least one spinal board is disposed between the bottom sheet and the foam layer, and a patient support plastic sheet is disposed above the foam layer. The bottom sheet, the foam layer, and the patient support sheet form a sandwiched portion configured to underlie a patient; peripheral edge portions of the bottom sheet and the patient support sheet are coupled together with substantially no foam layer therebetween. Plural horizontal straps are disposed substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the sled, and are coupled to the peripheral edge portions, and configured to, when tightened, at least partially enclose said patient in a cylindrically shaped cocoon. Plural wheel assemblies are coupled to each spinal board, at least a portion of each wheel assembly extends through corresponding holes in the bottom sheet.

Abstract: A method for a two person rescue team to rescue an incapacitated person from a hazardous environment includes a wheeled platform with a contoured recess shaped to accommodate an air pack. The platform is sufficiently low to the ground so that a transported person, as well as the rescue personnel can be kept below the heat in an inflamed building. The platform straddles a water hose which is used as an escape path by the rescue team to extract the incapacitated person.
