摘要： An improved ferrule for Cue/Billiard sticks. The Tungsten Carbide Ferrule is a cylindrical metal body with an interior bore through the entire length. The Tungsten Carbide Ferrule is attached to the shaft of the Cue/Billiard stick by means of a tenon formed on the shaft. This will allow the ferrule to tightly engage the shaft of the cue and is secured by typical means of attachment, normally glue or epoxy. The tenon is extended to the end of the ferrule. A tip of leather or other material can then be attached using normal gluing methods.

摘要： A leather billiard cue tip has an insert embedded in the surface of the cue tip having a higher coefficient of friction relative to the cue ball than that of the leather tip itself. The insert has a mechanical compliance compatible with that of the leather tip, and is contoured to form a continuous smooth surface at the apex of the leather tip. The leather tip has a hardness that is not less than, i.e., that is equal to or greater than, the hardness of the insert. The composite of leather and insert provide a cue tip having enhanced friction when contacting the cue ball, diminishing sliding between the cue tip and cue ball during an off center billiard shot that significantly reduces the risk of miscuing while optimum hardness of the leather tip insures substantial maintenance of the structural geometry of the tip during and after a billiard shot.

The tip is manufactured from an epoxy resin reinforced glass fiber material that is used in the manufacturing of printed circuit boards. The material is formed into a rivet (mushroom) shape to allow the outer most part of the shaft that is shaped into a small cylindrical shaped object to be inserted into the cavity of a bush shaped point ferrule in order to connect with the small cylindrical object beneath the tip, and to allow the compression packing located between the tip and point ferrule to absorb the counter force of striking a billiard ball such that the tip and point ferrule are not damaged during impact.

The tip section may be connected to either a butt section of a two piece cue, or to the shortened shaft end of an existing cue stick butt section. The tip section is composed of a hollow tube into which stiffening members and weights may be introduced to alter the weight, balance, flex and kick of the tip section. The tip section can be retrofitted to an existing butt section, used to repair a cue stick with a damaged tip segment, or be part of a new cue.

摘要： A billiard cue includes a shaft having a hollow bore extending for a predetermined distance from a first end of the shaft to reduce the tip end weight of the shaft. In one aspect, where the shaft is formed of a composite material consisting of fibers in a binder, such as carbon fibers in an epoxy resin, the bore forms an outer wall in the tip end of the shaft having a thickness between about 0.005 and about 0.05 inches The shaft material has a modulus of elasticity of at least 4.3null106 psi. The bore extending from the first end of the shaft, the thin wall thickness of the tip end of the shaft and the material forming the shaft combine to decrease the mass of the tip end of the shaft while maintaining substantially all of the stiffness of a conventional solid wood shaft formed of a hard maple to minimize buckling of the tip end of the shaft and thereby substantially decrease deflection of the cue ball from its intended path of movement along a path parallel to the stroke axis of the shaft. The tip end bore may be left hollow or filled with a light weight, non-structural material. The hollow bore is equally applicable to shafts formed of wood.

摘要： A cue tip mounting system. A system for releasably securing a leather cue tip to a cue stick is provided. The system provides a tip mount for permanent mounting in the distal end of a cue stick. The tip mount has a threaded shaft extending outward along central axis for releasable threaded engagement with interior threads provided in a detachable mounting ferrule. The mounting ferrule has, at the tip end thereof, a centrally located nipple with flat distal surface for providing a centering force on a leather tip which is adhesively bonded to the tip end of the mounting ferrule. The tip is provided with a nipple accepting cup adapted to receiving the centering nipple protruding from the in the mounting ferrule. Preferably, the tip mount is provided in brass, and the ferrule in brass or aluminum, for absorbing shock.

The tip base and head components engage and seat against interior and exterior shoulders formed at the tip end of the ferrule. The side of the tip base component opposite the neck component engages and seats against the end of the doweled portion of the cue stick.
