    摘要: Integrated plant (10) to convert a metallic charge continuously into semi-finished products such as billets, blooms, slabs, bars or ingots, which comprises in close cooperation a chamber (14) to pre-heat a controlled metallic charge, the chamber (14) including a burner (15) and a terminal feeder (16) feeding an electric furnace (17) with a controlled flow, and comprises also the electric furnace (17), a continuously functioning transformer (26), a multifunction manipulator (20) with two independent arms able to rotate circumferentially and to move vertically to handle two ladles (18) at one and the same time at least between a tapping station of the electric furnace (17) and a casting and tapping station (21), and at least one casting and tapping station (21) served by a tundish feeding liquid metal continuously, a station to refine the liquid metal in the ladle (18) being located between the tapping station of the furnace (17) and the tapping and casting station (21).Smelting method obtained with the plant (10) of the claims hereinbefore, which feeds molten metal continuously at least to one casting station (21) by means of two ladles (18) feeding a tundish alternately and starts with a pre-set and variable metallic charge, such metallic charge being fed continuously in the opposite direction to heating means in a pre-heating chamber (14), such charge feeding continuously with an adjustable flow an electric furnace (17) when liquid metal is tapped regularly and partially into ladles (18) able to move along a circumference, in which method the liquid metal is treated and refined in the ladle (18) before being delivered by one of the ladles (18) alternately into a tundish which transfers it continuously to the casting station (21) while the other ladle (18) is engaged in succession in operations of preparation, charging and refining, the cycle proceeding continuously without operating interference.

    摘要: In a continuous casting machine, the combination comprises a mould structure, a tundish car, a tundish, and a shroud for molten metal. An arrangement is provided for mounting the tundish shroud on the tundish car and for mounting the shroud adjacent the casting machine. The arrangement for mounting the shroud includes an elevating arrangement for raising the shroud into sealing engagement with a ladle when the latter is supported generally above the mould structure and for lowering the shroud to afford sufficient clearance for removal of the ladle.

    摘要: A method of casting steel at a lower overheated temperature during continuous casting, wherein the inner surface of a tundish is heated to a temperature which approximately corresponds to the temperature of the steel in a ladle, the tundish is filled with steel, and the steel is poured into at least one mold. According to the invention a discharge spout of the tundish which opens above the reference level of the metal bath, prior to casting and during heating of the tundish is brought into a position which occupies the lowest point of the inner surface of the tundish, the heating of the tundish is continued until adjusting an approximately stationary thermal gradient between the inner and the outer surfaces of the tundish, and prior to pouring of the steel into the mold the tundish is brought into its casting position.The tundish for the pouring of steel during continuous casting comprises a substantially troughlike lower portion and a domed cover member, at least one bottom nozzle provided for the tundish lower portion, said cover member being provided with an opening for the pouring in of the steel melt from a ladle, and a heating device is arranged above the reference bath level of the tundish. The tundish has a lining possessing a heat conductivity resistance of at least 0.25 m.sup.2.h. .degree.C/Kcal, and is further provided with a discharge spout partially possessing a substantially tubular-shaped cross-section and opening above the reference level of the metal bath. There is also provided means for displacing the tundish about a horizontal axis.

    摘要: Invention includes a pair of saddle yoke assemblies mounted opposite each other in parallel spaced relation on cross supporting beams of a gantry car for receiving and supporting the trunnions of a hot metal tundish. The trunnions of the tundish are formed with a lower wedge shape portion and an upper rounded portion inwardly of the conventional cylindrical end of the trunnion. The wedge shape portions of the trunnions fit each into mating sockets or openings in a chuck in each of the saddle yoke assemblies. The chuck of each of the saddle yoke assemblies that receives the shaped portions of the trunnions is mounted for rotation in an upright trackway in the saddle assembly. The openings in the chucks are so dimensioned that when the wedge shape portion of each trunnion is received in the chuck, the rounded upper part of the trunnion forms a continuous circular surface with the circumference of the chuck so that when the chuck is rotated in the trackway while supporting the trunnions of the tundish, the rounded upper portion of the trunnion rides within the trackway and the tundish is prevented from falling from the yoke assembly when it is tilted to remove slag and steel residue from the tundish. The apparatus also includes means for raising and lowering the yoke saddle assemblies so as to lift the tundish high enough for the pouring spout or spouts depending therefrom to clear the top of a mold into which molten metal is to be cast. The apparatus is further designed to permit limited longitudinal movement of the saddle assembly along the two beams of the gantry car so as to properly position the pouring spout of the tundish relative to the interior of the mold.

A shuttle truck moveable along the guide rails and provided with a hoist, lifts a tundish from its car in the standby position, transports the lifted tundish to the slag discharge position, to the reconditioning apparatus, and returns the emptied, reconditioned tundish to its car.
