    摘要: A universal sharpening jig for a cutting blade includes a base plate, a protractor plate coupled to the base plate, an incline plate hingedly coupled to the base plate and slideably connected to the protractor plate, the incline plate configured to secure the cutting blade and configured to set and fix the angle of the incline plate with respect to the base plate to define a sharpening angle of all or a portion of a bevel with respect to a flat back of the cutting blade. A push plate is slideably attached proximate a front of the base plate and co-planar with a bottom surface of the base plate, the push plate configured to position a user-applied force vector thereon and directly apply the force vector closely proximate the intersection of the bevel and an abrasive surface to reduce de-stabilizing moments and user energy need to create a sharpened edge between the bevel and the flat back of the cutting blade. At least one glide located proximate back of the base plate is configured to longitudinally and/or laterally level the base plate with respect to a level abrasive surface to allow movement of the jig in all horizontal directions by a user to create the sharpened edge on the cutting blade.

    摘要: Apparatus and method for sharpening a workpiece, such as a cutting tool. An abrasive disc is rotatable about a disc rotational axis and includes a plurality of spaced apart, radially disposed apertures extending therethrough from a first surface to an opposing second surface of the disc. The first surface is configured to facilitate sharpening of a workpiece by contacting engagement of the workpiece against an abrasive layer adjacent the first surface between adjacent first and second apertures of said plurality. The first surface further induces controlled axial displacement of the workpiece away from the disc as the second aperture approaches the workpiece during disc rotation. The first surface is preferably concave so as to extend into the disc between each adjacent pair of the apertures. Alternatively, the first surface is provided with different compressibilities to induce the controlled axial displacement of the workpiece.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for automated honing of elongated straight-edged cutting blades such as those used in the printing and binding industry for the trimming of books or pamphlets and the like, wherein a sharpened blade which has been ground on other equipment is thereafter registered and secured at a predetermined angle upon a moveable blade holder support of the apparatus hereof, which support is then cycled to longitudinally displace so that the blade edge is thereby brought into sequential engagement with progressively finer abrasive surfaces of a longitudinal array of cooperative upper and lower orbitally driven honing heads whereby on a single reciprocated pass therethrough the blade is efficiently finished to a smooth sharp cutting edge. In an alternate embodiment of the apparatus and method hereof it is the honing heads which are longitudinally reciprocated while the blade to be honed is held upon a stationary blade holder support.
