    摘要: A high pressure tool assembly includes a hand control valve mechanically connectable to a tool. An intensifier is fluidly connected to the hand control valve and to the tool. The intensifier increases pressure of an operating fluid to be supplied to the tool. A first fluid circuit conveying the first operating fluid is formed between the intensifier and the tool. A second fluid circuit conveying a second operating fluid is formed between the hand control valve and the intensifier. The first fluid circuit operates at a first pressure. The second fluid circuit operates at a second pressure. The first pressure is higher than the second pressure. The first fluid circuit is isolated from the second fluid circuit.

    摘要: There is disclosed a tool for the removal of locking collars of the frangible fasteners used in the aerospace industry, particularly for removal of fasteners installed in close quarters such in a deep channel where conventional tools cannot grip the collar. The tool has a collet-type chuck to grasp the collar of the fastener and has a lead screw to lock the collet chuck about the collar and permit removal of the collar. For this purpose, the collet chuck has a cylindrical neck which is received within a sleeve. The lead screw is received in the opposite end of the collet sleeve and is threadably engaged in the internally threaded bore of the collet chuck member, preferably with left hand threads, and has a head with wrenching flats. The lead screw has a central axial through bore which receives a key member which is used to immobilize the stud or bolt of the fastener system. A disk member is slidably received within the collet sleeve to eject removed collars from the collet chuck member.

After the predetermined torque is applied, the collar is dimpled (indented) to lock the collar to the pin. The thread can be smooth so the lock is a smooth frictional running lock, or can be interrupted so material of the collar at the indentation forms a physical lock with the interrupted thread. A tool is shown that can drive and indent the collar. A method for setting the collar is also disclosed.

    摘要: A tool for removal of round internally threaded collars from high efficiency aerospace fasteners. The tool includes a central cylindrical pin having a head at one end held against rotation, a non-round extension at the second end and a transverse bore intermediate the ends, containing a ball which is spring biased to project slightly beyond the pin wall. A mandrel assembly surrounds the pin and is rotatable relative thereto. A gripping collet is positioned between the mandrel and pin with collet fingers at one end extending beyond the mandrel and a threaded second end threaded into said mandrel. An axial slot in said collet is adapted to receive said ball when aligned therewith to form a releasable latch mechanism. In operation, the open collet fingers are placed over a threaded collar with said extension in engagement with a corresponding recess in the end of the bolt within the collar. The socket and mandrel are rotated in the collar unthreading direction. The latch mechanism latches the pin and collet together, preventing rotation of the collet. This causes the mandrel to thread into the collet and move downwardly forcing the fingers to grip onto the collar and bringing frictional contact between the mandrel and collet. This frictional contact tries to force the collet to rotate with the mandrel, to thus cause the latch to release and the collet to rotate with the mandrel. Continued rotation of the mandrel causes the collet fingers to further tighten on the collar until the collar unthreads from the bolt.

    摘要: A power driven tool and method for turning a conventional threaded fastener on a threaded shank to a predetermined tightness and automatically locking it in place by deforming or swaging the fastener to create controlled thread interference. The tool includes a power driven fastener socket surrounded by a plurality of radially movable punches which, when moved inwardly, will deform the fastener to effectively lock it in place. The punches are caused to move inwardly upon the fastener by a mechanism for converting rotary motion of the tool to a radial clamping force which is applied to the fastener as it begins to be tightened and which is effective to deform the fastener after it has reached a predetermined tightness. The tool also includes means to automatically retract the punches from the fastener after the fastener has been deformed to permit removal of the tool.

    摘要: A nut running tool in which is combined nut running and nut crimping mechanism. The tool is operative to crimp all six sides of a standard hexagonal nut. A reversible rotary air motor drivingly connected with the mechanism is operable in one direction to cause the mechanism to drive the nut to a predetermined tightness, and is operable in an opposite direction to cause the mechanism to crimp the nut. In one embodiment, control means is selectively operable to determine the direction of rotation of the motor. In a second embodiment, control means is provided which is operable without further intervention of the operator to cause the mechanism to run through a first stage to set the nut, then responds automatically to setting of the nut to cause the mechanism to crimp the nut, and finally responds to the latter action to restore the tool to its normal condition.

    摘要: A fluid-powered tool for applying a threaded fastener on a correspondingly threaded shank to a predetermined tightness and then locking it in place by deforming or swaging the fastener upon the shank to interlock their threads. The tool includes a rotatably driven nut socket, a fluid motor for driving the socket, and a torque responsive shutoff device effective to stop rotation of the socket when a predetermined torque has been reached. The locking or deforming mechanism includes a plurality of reciprocating jaws positioned radially adjacent the nut socket which jaws are movable in a remote position external of the socket to a deforming position extending into the socket. A control means is provided which will cause the jaws to automatically move to their deforming position after the torqueresponsive shutoff device has stopped rotation of the nut and to return the jaws to their remote position so that the tool may be removed.
