摘要: Methods, devices, and systems for manufacturing ophthalmic lenses using direct injection molding are described. The present methods, devices, and systems include a mold block having a first mold insert and a second mold insert defining a lens-shaped cavity between them. A raised non-uniform region that projects into the lens-shaped cavity is incorporated in a peripheral zone of the molding surface of at least one of the mold inserts. When an ophthalmic lens is formed using the described mold block, at least one depression is produced in the lens. A gate placed at the non-uniform region allows the depression to hide any gate witness that may form when the mold is closed or separated.

摘要: A system and method are provided for implementing enhanced optics fabrication for making a concave focusing optical lens with a selected material of a crystal or an amorphous material and a support member. A cut-out is formed in the support member with a depth based upon the final, desired curvature of the concave focusing optical lens. The cut-out is partially filled with an epoxy and the selected crystal or amorphous material is placed on top thereby creating a quasi-vacuum seal. A vacuum pump is connected to the support member, providing a set vacuum level until the epoxy has hardened and the selected crystal or amorphous material has achieved its final curvature. Vacuum pressure is substantially uniformly applied to the crystal, providing substantially uniform stresses on the surface of the final concave focusing optical lens.

摘要: A process and an apparatus are used for molding optical lenses from a thermosettable plastic material. Two molding shells having surfaces of a predetermined shape are arranged at a distance relative to one another and are sealed at their periphery. The plastic material is brought into the gap enclosed by the surfaces between the molding shells. At least one of the surfaces is deformed from an initial shape into the predetermined shape immediately prior to the bringing in of the plastic material and depending on predetermined data.

摘要: The present invention provides a method for preparing a customized polymeric article including: providing two mold half-sections, each half-section having an outer surface and an inner surface; assembling the two mold half-sections to form a mold assembly such that the inner surfaces define a cavity there between; applying one or more magnetic fluids to the inner surface of a mold half-section; inserting a fluid polymeric material into the cavity; controllably applying a magnetic field to the magnetic fluids to form a customized reversible surface in accordance with a predetermined specific surface topography; subjecting the mold assembly to conditions sufficient to effect polymerization or hardening of the fluid polymeric material; and separating the two mold half-sections. Articles prepared by the method also are provided.

摘要: The invention provides a method of moulding a vision correction lens from a transparent resin. The resin is introduced into a mould cavity, the sides of which cavity which correspond to the front and rear surfaces of the lens being formed by two sheets, at least one of which is flexible. The amount of resin in the cavity is adjusted to deform the flexible sheet(s) so that the shape of the lens defined by the sheet(s) will provide a desired power, and the resin is then cured. The sheets can be transparent, and a user can look through them as the amount of resin is adjusted, to ensure that the lens is of the desired power. Further, the amount of resin in the cavity can be adjusted to accommodate changes in the refractive index of the resin as it cures.

摘要: A method of making mold assemblies in which are cast polymerized synthetic resin, single vision and multi-focal plastic ophthalmic lenses. Molds are used to produce optical surfaces on the cast resin lenses. These are of glass which is optically surfaced and then assembled within a resilient carrier and supported frictionally in sealed engagement with the tubular resilient walls of the mold assembly carrier. The carrier is designed to provide for positioning the mold elements dimensionally so as to control concentricity, thickness and prism of the finished casting with no portion of the body of the carrier interlying the glass mold elements. Unrestricted shrinkage therefore is allowed to take place in thickness so as to allow full curing of the lens without premature mold separation. The mold assembly is sealed to provide a hermetic closure against leakage of contents or intrusion of air into the mold assembly during curing.
