摘要:
Multicolor graphic image screen printing on basketball backboards using ultraviolet light-cured inks is disclosed. The UV inks include a cure catalyst which enables the UV inks to meet adhesion and weatherability standards for basketball backboards. The UV inks are printed using fine mesh screens which provide high resolution and require less ink to print the graphic image. Four-color process printing, including photographic printing, is possible according to the present invention.

A stencil printer has a vertical stack of frame-mounted stencils which are supported on one another. Laterally of the stack are arranged holding devices which engage the stencil which is second from the bottom so as to support the stack, while lifting devices are provided which lower the bottom stencil relative to the stack to a printing position and, subsequent to printing, raise it out of the printing position to an intermediate position in which it can be laterally withdrawn from the stack to be placed atop the same. The stack is then lowered by the height of one frame.

A flat bed screen printing machine wherein the material to be printed is movable in stepwise fashion with or relative to an assembly including a flat bed at one side and a screen at the opposite side of the path for the material. The material moves with the assembly during application of paste and moves slowly relative to the assembly while the latter moves rearwardly to its starting position. The slow movement of the material serves to move its passer marks to optimum positions with reference to a detector. One or more stationary squeegees are adjacent the screen. The screen can move relative to the squeegee(s).

In a screen printing process and machine for stepwise printing a succession of images, the screen printing stencil is moved along with the material during the printing operation, while the material is supported by a rotatable backing roller against the force applied to the material by the screen and a doctor blade disposed opposite the backing roller. During the printing operation the material is rolled against the stencil by the backing roller which together with the doctor may be moved in the opposite direction to the stencil. The direction of movement of the backing roller and an upstream guide roller, relative to the direction of movement of the stencil, is such as to promote separation of the material after printing from the stencil.
