摘要: A hammer bank system for use in a high speed impact printer includes a movable hammer bank in which the hammer spacing is twice the character spacing. A hammer bank controller is used to move the entire hammer bank between two selected hammer bank positions. In one hammer bank position, the hammers are aligned with odd character positions and in the other hammer bank position, the hammers are aligned with the even character positions. The hammer bank controller in response to a move command signal from the printer logic section drives the hammer bank (in a velocity mode) from one of its positions to the other first at an increasing velocity, followed by a constant velocity, until the bank is at a selected distance from the desired position, at which time the hammer bank velocity is decreased to zero and the hammer bank is substantially at the desired position. The controller switches to a position mode in which a position signal is used in a position servo loop to lock the hammer bank at the desired position. In normal operation when the bank is switched to the position mode, a move complete signal is fed back to the printer logic section to terminate the move command signal. Positioning initialization circuitry is also included to automatically drive the hammer bank to one of its desired positions.

摘要: A printer for selecting automatically types of numerals and/or characters in response to input signals and for printing the selected types of numerals and characters on a printing paper, in which a plurality of type wheels are arranged rotatably on a shaft at regular intervals. Each of the type wheels has an even number of permanent magnets radially arranged from the center of the type wheel at regular intervals in the alternating arrangement of magnetic polarities of the permanent magnets. Type characters are fixed along the periphery of each type wheel at respective projections each arranged between adjacent two of the permanent magnets. One of the types is selected by rotating each type wheel in the clockwise or counterclockwise direction by driving alternately a pair of electromagnets arranged oppositely to one of the types and the pole of one of the permanent magnets respectively until the selected type opposes a print hammer.

摘要: A variable speed printing (VSP) adaptor for a dot matrix printer which includes a monitoring means having a plurality of devices each capable of assuming one of two states. The monitoring means monitors the state of the pattern data to be printed, and, in the preferred embodiment, the monitoring means comprises a counter which is preset with a number equal to the number of column scans with a dot print line. The pattern data to be printed is scanned in a forward direction, i.e., in the normal printing direction starting at the first print position and the count in the counter is decremented one count for each column data scanned. During the time interval between when this data is latched and the actual hammer actuation, the pattern data is scanned in the backward direction starting at the last print position. Each time the column data for a backward scan is zero, i.e., no dot to be printed, prior to sensing a non-zero column, the count in the counter is decremented one count. The printing operation continues in the interleaved forward/backward scans until the count in the counter reaches a reference level such as zero. Upon sensing this reference level in the counter, a control signal is generated which indicates that the printing of the dot row is complete and initiates movement of the paper to the next dot row position. In an alternate embodiment, the monitoring means comprises a random access storage device.

摘要: An all-points addressable dot printer has rows of sloped parallel anvils on a rotating drum. Alternate rows slope in opposite directions for bi-directional printing with a single row of hammer blades. The blades which are spaced apart, are shifted bi-directionally in synchronism with the scanning motion of the anvils to print dots at all dot line points. A second embodiment has a reciprocating comb bar located between the blades and a print medium. Spring fingers on the comb bar have dot forming protrusions. The spring fingers are uniformly spaced with center spacing equal to the center distances between the blades. Comb bar motion is linear with time along the line segments. Blade motion is simple harmonic.

摘要: Print smearing observed in double wide hammers can be controlled and reduced by providing the impact face of the print hammer with a concave cylindrical radius of curvature wherein the cylindrical axis is parallel to the vertical font direction. The radius of curvature is chosen according to impact energy and font velocities. In other embodiments, the timing of impact between the hammer and font characters may be offset such that the center of the print column leads the center of the impact hammer at the time of impact. In another embodiment, the radius of cylindrical curvature may be ground off center from the center line of the print hammer by a predetermined offset.

摘要: A printing apparatus for printing a color bar code and alphanumerics on a label. The apparatus includes first and second groups of characters positioned on first and second portions, respectively, of a printing drum to form a ring of characters therearound. A first inking roll supplies a first ink to the first group of characters, and a second inking roll supplies a second ink to the second group of characters as the drum is rotated. A carriage having print hammers thereon is shifted slightly between first and second positions in timed relation with the rotation of the drum. Several rings of characters composed of the first and second groups of characters are placed axially along the drum. The bars used for printing the color bar code are aligned in a shuttling pattern on the drum, with the long dimension of the bars being transverse to the rotating axis of the drum.

摘要: An electronic printer employs a character drum on which the elements are arranged along helical paths, and are divided into a plurality of discrete, axially offset character groups. An impact member is aligned with each of the character groups, and enables printing during concurrent rotation of the drum and axial movement of both the drum and the hammers synchronously past the object to be printed.
