A loading device has a loading table. A reshaping device includes a mechanism to shape a front cut of a book block. The mechanism includes a tool carrier having a shaping tool to shape the front cut. Tool carrier and/or the shaping tool executes a series of movements in one plane or in three-dimensional space, relative to the front cut to be shaped, while the book block is held in the pressing device.

Members are provided for controlling (21, 22, 32, 33) the lateral position of the supporting bearing (5) and for lowering and raising (10, 11, 12) the pressing beam into the starting position for its return stroke. An eccentric starting position is realized during the lowering of the pressing beam (9) on the spine (2a), in the form of a swinging position of the slide (7) that is offset toward the opposite side of the spine center (2b) referred to the respective side to be backed thereafter.

    摘要： A binding-in and pressing machine (1) with a plurality of pressing stations (60) and heated joint forming rails situated on a reciprocating carriage (50). An alignment station (20) is provided for aligning the book case joints (2a) at the height of the joint forming rails (49a, b), including a height-adjustable alignment table (21) with rails (22, 23) for supporting the book (2) on the outer edges of its spine and guide elements (28, 6) for centering the book on the alignment table. A separate pre-forming station (40) is also provided that comprises the forming rail (51), clamping plates (41a, b), and joint rails (48a, b) that engage into the book case joints (2a) and counteract a downward movement of at least the book case joints (2a). The books (2) aligned in the alignment station (20) are transferred into the pre-forming station (40) while being clamped in lateral regions near the joints. The effective times available for realizing a functionally safe alignment and a permanent pre-forming of the books are extended due to the assignment of the alignment and pre-forming functions to two separate stations.

A measuring device (36-38, 53) which detects the height position (HRx) of the book block spine (3a) during continuous operation and a device (30, 31, 33, 43-50, 16, 17, 19-22, 51, 52) which positions the book block (3) to be backed and the forming block (4) to be placed thereon with respect to one another are provided. A constant distance (A) between book block spine (3a) and forming block (4) when placing the forming block (4) is thereby established and consistent backing results are achieved.

    摘要： The invention relates to a method of trimming selvage from a succession of books. According to the method, a saw is provided having a pair of oppositely facing surfaces which merge at a cutting edge. One of the surfaces is substantially flat throughout its length or throughout all but the area of the surface adjacent the cutting edge. The latter area is bevelled as is the other surface of the saw. The books are advanced toward the saw and the saw is so positioned relative to the books such that its cutting run is normal to the direction of book advance and is parallel to the plane of the pages of the books. The saw is also positioned such that its first-mentioned surface faces pages trimmed by the saw and its other surface faces selvage trimmed by the saw.
