    摘要: An adaptable wheel has a central hub, radial segments connected to the central hub at a proximal end and extending radially from the central hub, each radial segment having a linear actuator configured to change a length of the radial segment; a shoe connected to a distal end of the radial segment for contacting a surface being traversed by the wheel; and a locking mechanism for selectively preventing linear motion of the linear actuator. A control system for an adaptable wheel includes a distance sensor on a vehicle for determining distance to a surface in the path of the vehicle and a computer for receiving distance information from the distance sensor and, responsive to the distance information, determine a desired length of a segment of an adaptable wheel for maintaining a hub of a wheel level, and provide control signals to a linear actuator of the segment.

    摘要: A road gripping and traction assembly includes an assembly that is removably positionable on a vehicle wheel that includes a rim having a plurality of threaded bolts extending therethrough. The assembly includes a hub having an inner surface, an outer surface and a peripheral edge. The hub has a plurality of apertures extending therethrough. The number of apertures equals the number of threaded bolts. Each of the apertures is positioned for selectively receiving one of the threaded bolts. A plurality of arms each have an attached end that is attached to the peripheral edge and a free end extending outwardly away from the hub. Each of a plurality of gripping members is pivotally coupled to one of the free ends such that the gripping members are selectively positionable in a stored positioned adjacent to a side wall of the wheel or in a gripping position abutting threads of the wheel.

    摘要: A robotic vehicle is provided with improved traction and mobility via a specially designed wheel apparatus including a relatively rigid wheel structure formed from two circular, coaxial sprocketed wheel plates separated by a central hub. The sprockets on the wheel plates are circumferentially aligned with one another, with axially facing sprocket pairs being received in areas defined between circumferentially adjacent pairs of tread links in a series of tread links, equal in number to the number of sprocket pairs, arranged in a circular array around the periphery of the wheel structure. The sprocket pairs are sized and configured in a manner such that substantial relative axial and circumferential movement between the wheel structure and the tread link array are blocked, with the axially facing sprockets in each sprocket pair being axially and resiliently deflected toward one another by surface portions of their associated tread link area.

    摘要: The vehicle tire traction device provides additional traction for a vehicle tire when a vehicle is stuck in sand, snow, mud or the like. The vehicle tire traction device includes a flexible sheet having opposed upper and lower surfaces, the lower surface being adapted for covering a portion of a vehicle tire. The upper surface has a tread pattern formed thereon. The flexible sheet has a pair of longitudinally opposed side edges. At least one hook is mounted on each of the side edges for releasably securing the flexible sheet to a wheel. A pair of side flaps are extend from the pair of side edges of the flexible sheet. At least one of the hooks is mounted on each of the side flaps. Each of the hooks is secured thereto by a resilient member, such as a helical spring or the like.
