Abstract:
A center clamping mechanism for a wheel assembly service machine such as a tire changer machine includes a back cone centering element projecting outwardly from a platen and configured to engage a center bore of the wheel rim hub mount pad from an inner side of the hub mount pad. The centering element may include a compliant element configured to at least partially support the weight of the wheel rim and tire when being clamped. A pivot arm defines a contact surface for the inner side of the wheel rim hub mount pad, and when the tire is rotated by an operator with the inner side in contact with the contact surface, an anti-rotate pin carried on the pivot arm may be adjusted in radial position relative to the drive axis to accommodate different lug holes at varying lug bolt circle diameters.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a bead breaker group for a tire mounting-demounting machine, which includes a support arm displaceable, in use, in two bead breaking directions along one bead breaking axis, and includes a pair of bead breaker tools supported on substantially opposite sides with respect to the support arm, thereby defining opposite work fronts directed away from the support arm, the work front of a first bead breaker tool of the pair of bead breaker tools being directed towards one bead breaking direction of the two bead breaking directions, whereas the work front of a second bead breaker tool of the pair of bead breaker tools is directed towards the other bead breaking direction of the two bead breaking directions.
Abstract:
A tire removal tool for breaking the bead of the tire from the wheel rim is provided. The tool can include a bead member that is removably attachable to a distal end of a support member that is part of a trailer elevation jack. The elevation jack is rigidly attached to a trailer and has a jacking mechanism for retracting and extending the distal end of the support member. The bead member is dimensioned to fit adjacent to a rim and onto a tire bead, with the extension of the distal end of the support member resulting in pressure being applied down onto the tire bead. In this manner, the tire bead is separated from the wheel rim. The bead member can include a collar with an inlet end and a flange that is attached to the collar at a distance spaced apart from the inlet end. The inlet end is dimensioned to accept at least part of the distal end of the support member. In some instances, the collar has a rectangular shaped cross section, while in other instances the collar has a circular shaped cross section.
Abstract:
A portable tire bead breaker utilizes a common jacking apparatus to lever a curved foot member against the bead portion of a tire/rim combination. A top stabilizer keeps the curved foot member in the proper orientation and a bead engaging foot member permits the breaking of difficult to break bead on tires having soft and limber sidewalls.
Abstract:
A tire bead-breaker having a jack stanchion adapted for substantially vertical use, a jack body mounted on the stanchion for substantially vertical movement therealong, a wheel support associated with and movable with the body and extending outwardly substantially horizontally therefrom, the support having a substantially planar bed for supporting a wheel in substantially horizontal posture with a portion of the tire tread juxtaposed the stanchion such that the side wall thereof faces substantially upwardly, a butting device affixed to the stanchion above the support and being adapted to engage a tire side wall adjacent the tire rim to break the tire bead from the rim in response to upward movement of the body and support and a wheel supported thereon.
Abstract:
A clamping device including a pair of counter-opposing angularly shaped beams each having a forward jaw portion and a rearward portion interconnected by a pair of connecting straps and a force exerting element. Each connecting strap is pivotally attached at one end to a forward jaw portion of one beam and the rearward portion of the other beam. The point of intersection of the connecting straps moves progressively closer to the workpiece held between the jaws as the jaws are closed and exert simultaneously equal forces ont the workpiece. In one embodiment the clamping device is adapted for use as a portable tire bead breaker suitable for use on large truck or tractor tires.
Abstract:
An improved tool for breaking the circumferential bead of a pneumatic tire from the inner surface of the lip of a wheel rim, the tool having a body with a forward downwardly extending rim engaging body tooth, a bead head slidably supported by the body, an arm pivotally supported to the body having an outer end configured to engage the exterior surface of the wheel rim, an arm actuator slidably supported by the body, and apparatus for longitudinally sliding the arm actuator to first pivot the arm to clamp the wheel rim lip and subsequently advancing the bead head to engage the tire and force the bead away from the wheel rim lip. The improvement lies in the method of clamping the wheel rim between the body tooth and the arm with a selected maximum value of force.
Abstract:
A tire changer including a base having a lower extremity to support the base on an underlying surface, a tabletop having wheel grippers, a pivot mounting the tabletop on the base for pivotal movement about a generally horizontal axis between a generally horizontal, tire changing position and a generally vertical, wheel loading and unloading position whereat the wheel gripper is in sufficiently close proximity to the underlying surface supporting the base so as to be engageable with and securable to an upright wheel and tire on an underlying surface, a motor for selectively pivoting the tabletop between the two positions thereof, a bead loosening device connected to the base and defining a tire and wheel receiving space for receipt of an upright tire and wheel, the bead loosening device including at least one bead loosening shoe generally horizontally movable across the space in a direction generally transverse to the horizontal axis.
Abstract:
A machine frame includes a pair of upstanding frame members interconnected by a pair of telescopic members which include a power cylinder for moving the upstanding members towards and away from each other. A bead breaker arm includes a pair of hooks on one end, the bottom of which pivotally engages a pin on one of the upstanding members while the other hook movably engages another pin spaced above the first pin to allow the arm to move vertically within limits defined by the hook and the opposite end of a curved surface along which the second pin engages as the arm is raised and lowered. The outer free end of the arm includes a pivotal wedge member having an upwardly curved tapered end for engaging the rim and moving between the tire bead and the rim. The other upstanding frame member includes a rim holder for limiting the rim against vertical movement. A tire support cradle is formed from a plurality of arcuately arranged roller rods connected to one of the upstanding frame members and telescopically and rotatably engaging the other frame member to allow for rotation of the tire and inward and outward movement of the outer upstanding frame member relative to the inner upstanding frame member.
Abstract:
The present device is for separating the beads of a tire from a wheel rim and after one side of the rim is attached to a fixed jaw, a mobile jaw grips the opposite side of the rim whereby the rim is held between both jaws and pressure plates are brought to bear on both sides of the tire near the beads for pressing the tire beads from the rim.
