Abstract:
Locking pieces, such as clips, for decorative emblems and emblem assemblies, along with related methods. In some embodiments, a locking piece for coupling an emblem assembly to an airbag assembly may comprise a tapering slot narrowing in width, at least in part, from a first end of the tapering slot to a second end of the tapering slot defining a first fastener seat configured to engage a first fastener extending from a decorative emblem. The locking piece may further comprise a second fastener seat configured to resiliently engage, such as by way of a resiliently flexible prong, a second fastener extending from the decorative emblem and, in some embodiments, a third fastener seat configured to resiliently engage a third fastener extending from the decorative emblem.
Abstract:
An airbag cover structure for a steering wheel. The airbag cover structure with a lighting emblem includes: a mounting plate with an airbag cushion; an inner cover including an inner locking portion, a storage portion, and an inner hinge portion; an outer cover including an outer locking portion, an indicating portion, and an outer hinge portion; and an absorption area provided on the inner hinge portion of the inner cover, and configured to concentrate and absorb stress generated by a force that unfolds a bent portion of the outer hinge portion during deployment of the airbag cushion.
Abstract:
An airbag covering with a covering element (20) with an upper side and a lower side and at least two axially extending openings (22) from an upper end to a lower end, and with an emblem or design element on the covering element (20). The design element has at least two fastening pins (34) extending in the axial direction from the emblem section (32) through one opening (22). The fastening pin (34) has a thickened head (36) produced by thermal deformation. At least sections of the contact surface (38) of the head (36), which contact surface (38) faces the lower side of the covering element, do not extend perpendicularly to the axial direction.
Abstract:
A mounting member to be mounted to an obverse side of a cover part arranged at a central portion of a steering wheel includes corner parts 31a, 31b, 31c, and 31d having hook parts 36-3, 36-4, 36-5, and 36-6 protruding from their reverse sides, the hook parts 36-3, 36-4, 36-5, and 36-6 being capable of interlocking with holes formed at the cover part. The hook parts 36-3, 36-4, 36-5, and 36-6 are arranged at narrow parts 37a and 37b between a contour 33 of the mounting member 30 and openings 35a and 35b formed along the contour 33.
Abstract:
Multi-piece constructions for an illuminated emblem assembly for connection to an airbag cover are provided herein. An airbag assembly can include an airbag cover having front and rear surfaces, an emblem portion having one or more translucent areas and an illumination source. The airbag cover can include attachment elements protruding from the rear surface. The emblem portion and the illumination source can include openings for accommodating attachment elements. The illumination source can include a light guide and light emitting diodes (LEDs), where the LEDs are fitted in recesses formed in the light guide. The emblem portion can be arranged between the airbag cover and the illumination source, and the emblem portion and the illumination source can be aligned such that at least one of the one or more translucent areas is illuminated by light passing through the emblem portion from the illumination source.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a polyolefin-based thermoplastic elastomer composition for a vehicle airbag cover, including a polypropylene-based resin, a denatured polypropylene resin, an ionomer resin, an olefin-based copolymer elastomer and a styrene-based copolymer elastomer, an airbag cover material using the composition, and an airbag module using the airbag cover material.
Abstract:
An airbag cover including a front door located in a front area of the airbag cover so as to be openable forward and an ornament located on a top face of the front door. The front door includes a mounting section for mounting the ornament thereon, and the mounting section partially protrudes rearward from the rear edge of the front door. The front door further includes an auxiliary breakable portion that is located at the front edge of the mounting section so as to be breakable when an obstacle contacts with the ornament, and a pair of second hinges located at left and right ends of the auxiliary breakable portion. The mounting section bends about the second hinges relative to the front door in an opposite direction to an opening direction of the front door at breakage of the auxiliary breakable portion.
Abstract:
An assembly for attaching an emblem onto the front face of an airbag storage enclosure cover has a plurality of attachment posts that project from the back surface of the emblem and extend through the cover from the front face to terminate in free ends remote from the emblem. An attachment backing sheet is positioned against the rear face of the cover, whereby the attachment posts also extend through the attachment backing sheet with the free end of each positioned on the side of the attachment backing sheet opposite from the cover. A plurality of radially-enlarged attachment nuggets are formed or joined individually in a one-to-one association to the free end of the attachment posts, and each of the attachment nuggets is secured to the backing sheet in proximity to the associated attachment post. The attachment backing sheet thus tethers each of the attachment nuggets to the cover in the event of the mechanical failure of an associated attachment post. The attachment nuggets may be integrally formed with or bonded to the free ends of the attachment posts. If the attachment backing sheet is made of a porous material, such as a fabric, a mesh, or a screen, the material of the attachment nuggets permeates pores in the material of the attachment backing sheet in proximity to each associated attachment post. If the attachment backing sheet is made of a plastic material, the attachment nuggets are bonded with adhesive to the attachment backing sheet.
