A device for switching off and switching on the operation of a spindle of a textile twisting or spinning machine having a rumming thread is provided which includes the following elements. A pneumatic switching device is adapted to be operatively connected to a spindle stop mechanism of the textile machine for actuation and de-actuation thereof. A movable running thread sensor device is held in a first normal operating position by the running thread in the textile machine and moves to a second switching position upon breakage of the running thread. A movable breaking sensor device is adapted to be operatively connected to a spindle breaking mechanism of the textile machine for moving between a first position during normal operation of the spindle to a second position upon actuation of the spindle breaking mechanism after thread breakage. Pneumatic control mechanisms are operatively connected to the pneumatic switching device, the running thread sensor device and the movable breaking sensor device for operating the switching device to actuate the spindle stop mechanism upon breaking of the running thread to stop the spindle operation and the de-actuating the spindle stop mechanism upon actuation of the spindle breaking mechanism and before the running thread sensor device has returned to its normal operating position by the running thread during subsequent start-up of the spindle operation.

A method for monitoring air flows required for handling a thread and/or fiber band in a spinning machine, and to a spinning machine unit. At least one air flow-generating source is connected to an air flow duct. An air volume flow measuring unit is connected to an evaluation device for data transmission. The air volume flow is measured by the air volume flow measuring unit and the measurement result is transmitted to the evaluation device. The number of productive and/or non-productive spinning positions is detected. An air volume flow target value is determined by the evaluation device. The air volume flow target value is compared with actual value of the measured air volume flow by the evaluation device, the evaluation device making an evaluation on the basis of the comparison as to whether there is an unacceptable deviation between the actual value and the air volume flow target value.

A textile yarn processing machine, such as a two-for-one twister or the like, having respective yarn processing stations is provided with an improved yarn monitoring system for stopping the operation of the yarn processing station in response to the absence of a yarn running therethrough, as for example, upon the occurrence of a yarn breakage. The improved yarn monitoring system of the present invention is constructed generally as follows: A yarn sensor is constructed and mounted so as to be held in an operative setting by yarn tension when the yarn is running in normal operating condition and to be released in the event of the release of such tension, as upon a yarn breakage. A switching mechanism is provided for stopping the operation of the yarn processing station, and means is provided for operably connecting the yarn sensor to the switching mechanism for actuating the switching mechanism upon the release of the yarn sensor from its operative setting. These devices cooperate with a time delay means which is actuable upon restarting the yarn processing station for permitting a further actuation of the switching mechanism only after a predetermined period of time has elapsed to thus allow the yarn processing station to resume a normal, stabilized operating condition and to thereby avoid inadvertent and undesirable actuation of the switching mechanism prior to the yarn processing station reaching such a stabilized operating condition.
