Abstract:
The invention relates to a device and a method for manipulating a fibrous web (10). The device comprises at least one blower (21A, 21B) provided with a flow-preventing element (24A, 24B) which is arranged to produce at least one blow (26A, 26B) substantially in the direction of the fibrous web (10), and a friction element (28) against which the fibrous web (10) is arranged to be pressed at least partially from the effect of said blow (26A, 26B) and flow-preventing element (24A, 24B) to apply a friction force resisting the motion of the fibrous web (10) to the fibrous web (10). According to the invention, the blow (26A, 26B) is directed substantially away from the friction element (28) and the friction element (28) comprises a surface profile which is arranged such that, from the effect of said at least one blow (26A, 26B), a continuous vacuum is created on the surface of the fibrous web (10) on the side of the friction element (28). Due to its intensified friction effect, the device according to the invention is applicable especially for board and, by means of it, it is possible to form e.g. an air cutting device in the tail-threading section of a board machine.
Abstract:
Devices and methods related to a web stabilizer for stabilizing a moving web with a surface adjacent the moving web and with a supply of moving fluid in a direction parallel to the moving web and a supply of moving fluid in a direction perpendicular to the moving web.
Abstract:
An air stabilization system employing two substantially parallel, codirectional Coanda nozzles, that are positioned adjacent a flexible moving web, with each nozzle exhausting gas at the same downstream machine direction, subjects the moving web to shear forces effective to stabilize the web. Each nozzle includes an elongated slot that is substantially perpendicular to the path of the moving web and a backstep located downstream of the direction of airflow extending from the Coanda slot. The two Coanda nozzles serve as separate points along the machine direction for controlling the height of the moving web. By modulating the velocities or other parameters of gases exiting the Coanda nozzles, the shape of the moving web between the nozzles can be manipulated to present a planar contour for measurements. The air stabilization system can be incorporated into a scanner head to measure the caliper of paper, plastic, and other flexible web products.

Abstract:
A device for feeding web material through a processing installation comprises a conveyor belt which has a first segment and a second segment. An opening roller and a guiding surface are adapted for unfolding the conveyor belt by means of separating the first and second segments. A spreader roll is adapted to keep the conveyor belt unfolded while a tail of said web material is placed on said first segment. A folding roll is adapted for folding said second segment over said first segment for to enclose the tail in the conveyor belt. The spreader roll comprises a first roll portion, a second roll portion and a circumferential guiding track separating the roll portions. The first roll portion, which is adapted for supporting said first segment, has a cylindrical outer surface.
Abstract:
A papermaking apparatus having a machine direction, cross machine direction, and a z-direction. The papermaking apparatus also has a web stabilization device. The web stabilization device has a plurality of surface features that have a feature depth of greater than about 0.02″.
Abstract:
A method for threading a running paper web from a preceding section to a following section of a paper-making or paper-finishing machine, includes the steps of: providing a threading tail of the running paper web by cutting it from the running paper web at least one of its edges; providing at least one sensing element for gaining data from at least one property of the threading tail and/or threading process; transferring the gained data into a data collecting system and/or into an analysis system; and using the data for influencing the at least one property of the threading tail and/or the threading process.
Abstract:
To accomplish a web transfer, which in reliability is comparable to the one obtained with a closed draw, in any operating environment, but especially where it is desirable to transfer a fast running tissue web (4) from the drying section of a tissue machine, e.g., a Yankee dryer (2), to a reel-up (3), a web support device (10) extends across the width of the web (4) and along a predetermined run of the web support device has a support surface (11) formed by a series of plate member assemblies (23) having means for creating a flow of air in the direction of the web run. Between the web (4) and the support surface (11) the flow of air forms an air layer (15) of reduced static pressure, so as to stabilize the web (4) against flutter. The predetermined run may extend through a calender (7) and past scanner equipment (8). Pneumatic tail threading capabilities may be included.
Abstract:
A stabilizing apparatus for paper webs, comprising at least a movable element (4) disposed in correspondence of a paper web (2); tho movable element (4) comprises a wedge-like portion (5) having a lower surface (7) for intercepting an entrained first fluid thread (F1) in correspondence of a lower face (2a) of the web (2) and diverting said first thread (F1) along a direction transverse to the advancement direction (A).
