    摘要: An improved air-riding seal system for turbine engines is presented. The seal system includes a movable primary seal assembly, a stationary secondary seal assembly, and at least one structure to increase the stiffness of a thin film between the primary seal and a rotating component. The primary seal assembly includes an annular seal ring and an arcuate support arm. The annular seal ring has a cross section that is substantially L-shaped and a surface with a step face and a circumferential dam. The arcuate support arm has a tooth at one end adjacent to an outermost circumferential surface along the seal runner, which could include an optional notch. The tooth and outermost circumferential surface are separated by a gap. The secondary seal ring is disposed between and contacts the primary seal assembly and housing structure so as to form a bore seal and a face seal therewith. A plurality of radial dams disposed along the surface in an outward radial arrangement from the circumferential dam is provided to improve the stiffness of the thin film. Features of the invention allow for higher operating speeds.

    摘要: A face seal is provided with a constriction ring around a rubber boot that constricts the normal outward bulging of the flex section of the rubber boot as it folds and tries to roll forward over itself during axial deflection. The constriction caused by the constriction ring provides for increased frictional hysteresis during compression and decompression of the boot flex section. This increased hysteresis increases the dampening capacity of the seal design and, therefore, reduces undesired vibrations and seal noise generation.

    摘要: The invention relates to a split seal device for use between a stationary body and a rotary body. The device utilizes a fractured seal ring which is fractured along two diametrically opposite uneven fracture lines to prevent leakage of fluid. A vulcanized rubber insert which circumferentially engages the outer surface of the split ring is cut along about at least one split line and is fitted within a rotary housing, the latter being designed for mounting on a rotating shaft. The fractured split ring has a contact face for frictional contact with a corresponding contact face of a seal ring of the stationary body. The seal ring is likewise fractured along two diametrically opposite uneven fracture lines and is retained adjacent innermost end of the stationary body. To decrease shock of rotation, the lugs which engage the rotary face to the rotary housing, are made flexible and resilient. The split seal device is mounted for engagement with the flexible lugs in general co-axial alignment with the rotating body. The stationary portion has a two-part flange which is fixedly removably attached to a fluid containing vessel. An elastomeric insert is inserted between two parts of the flange.

In order to suppress this noise in an effective way, the slide ring seal has at least one damping part that comprises at least one shaped sheet metal part. It is provided with at least one elastically deformable spring part that is supported under pretension. Between the damping part and the support area microfriction is generated that leads to an effective noise damping action. The slide ring seal is advantageously used in the automotive field.
