摘要:
A falling piston viscometer which includes a measuring bushing and a piston configured to be slidably receivable inside the measuring bushing is provided herein. More specifically, the circumferential edge of first section of the piston in the described falling piston assembly is modified to allow for decreased friction and sensitivity. A lifting mechanism, in communication with the piston and piston rod, raises the piston to an upper piston position within the measuring bushing, upon instruction from a controller. Upon the piston being lifted, fluid is drawn into the measuring bushing. The controller is configured to maintain the piston in a raised position for a pre-programmed time, after which, the controller allows the piston to fall, by the force of gravity.

A technique used to determine a falling state of a falling body, such as whether the falling body reaches a falling termination speed and falls uniformly or falls with a change in the speed is provided. In particular, a method of determining a falling state of a falling body passing through a measured substance inserted into a measuring container is provided, the method including: measuring a first elapsed time which is a time interval between extreme values of two potentials generated in a first coil pair when the falling body passes through the first coil pair and a second elapsed time which is a time interval between extreme values of two potentials generated in a second coil pair when the falling body passes through the second coil pair; and determining the falling state of the falling body by comparing the first elapsed time with the second elapsed time.

A device and method for determining the viscosity of a fluid, preferably molten glass. The apparatus and method uses the velocity of rising bubbles, preferably helium bubbles, within the molten glass to determine the viscosity of the molten glass. The bubbles are released from a tube positioned below the surface of the molten glass so that the bubbles pass successively between two sets of electrodes, one above the other, that are continuously monitoring the conductivity of the molten glass. The measured conductivity will change as a bubble passes between the electrodes enabling an accurate determination of when a bubble has passed between the electrodes. The velocity of rising bubbles can be determined from the time interval between a change in conductivity of the first electrode pair and the second, upper electrode pair. The velocity of the rise of the bubbles in the glass melt is used in conjunction with other physical characteristics, obtained by known methods, to determine the viscosity of the glass melt fluid and, hence, glass quality.

An apparatus for measuring in situ the viscosity of a fluid in a sealed container which includes a spherical ball forming an integral package before any fluid is placed within the container. The apparatus further includes a composite ball consisting of a spherical core of one material surrounded by one or more layers of different materials distributed spherically about the core. The container may also be supported by an angular support member which angularly positions the container such that the ball will move within the container through the fluid at a specific speed. A sensing device is provided along the wall of the container to measure the speed of the ball wherein the sensing device includes a pair of sensors spaced apart by a known distance to sense when the ball passes by each of the sensors providing a speed which is useful for calculating the viscosity of the fluid.

A method and apparatus for measuring viscosity of an oil at low temperature and low shear stress. It employs a columnar container of the oil with vertically spaced temperature control devices to apply different cooling histories simultaneously. After the cooling histories have been applied, the viscosity of all the different histories is determined by measuring the instantaneous velocity of a probe moving through the column of oil under a constant force.

A viscosity measuring method and viscometer device for remotely determining viscosity of fluids within an enclosed container. The viscometer device comprises a vertically-oriented tubular probe which contains a tube enclosed by multiple adjacent electromagnetic coils, and the tube contains a movable magnetizable core-float member. When measuring viscosity of a fluid, the movable core-float member is first magnetically lifted to the upper end of the tube by sequential energizing and deenergizing of the electromagnetic coils, then the core-float is allowed to fall freely through the fluid to the lower end of the tube. The fluid viscosity is determined by the elapsed time for the core-float to fall through the fluid. The viscosity measuring method and viscometer device is particularly useful inside a reactor containing fluid and operated at high pressure and temperature conditions.
