    摘要: A nuclear radiation detector included inside mobile personal communication devices (e.g. cellular or satellite phone, pager, PDA) allows for a network of portable radiation detectors that can not only detect radiation, but also track possible radiation sources by virtue of the ubiquitous nature of such personal communication devices. When radiation levels above a certain level are detected, the detector electronics embedded within any proximate mobile personal communication device communicates with the device to cause transmission of relevant data to the authorities (e.g., central reporting server monitored by FBI). The detection event is assessed by factors including, for example, quantity of alarms in a given area and radiation level detected. The small size of this embedded detector allow for its discreet configuration and monitoring at all times. The device is non-invasive and requires no user knowledge or action, thus eliminating indiscriminate and uncontrolled action by the user.

    摘要: The radiation detector includes tissue equivalent bubbles of plastic defining volumes of gas to be ionized by radiation. One or more integrated circuits (ICs) are disposed below the volumes of gas and a collecting electrode on the IC is in direct contact with the gas. Circuitry for generating an electric field within the volume of gas moves the ions therein to the collecting electrode. The collecting electrode is part of an amplifying circuit disposed within the IC. The output from the amplifier is representative of the collected ions and therefore representative of the radiation. The signal from the amplifier is send to an interface which conditions, buffers and stores the signal. The radiation dose and dose rate are computed in the interface. A communications section transfers that data from the radiation detector. A separate calibration and display unit calibrates the interface by controlling The conditioning of the signal. An area monitor and air monitor are further enhancements of the radiation detector.

    摘要: The invention provides a device for measuring ionizing radiations, comprising a Geiger-Muller tube (1) whose high supply voltage is obtained from pulses which are emitted (by 6,7) at a constant relatively low frequency as long as a predetermined threshold is not exceeded by the intensity of the radiation and (by 6,7,4 and 32) at an increasing frequency depending on the output of the tube, after said threshold has been exceeded. Thus, alarm dosimeters having very long independent operation may be formed.

    摘要: A detector of ultraviolet radiation for operation in a space vehicle which orbits through high-intensity radiation areas. Two essentially identical ultraviolet sensor tubes are mounted within a shield which limits, to acceptable levels, the amount of proton radiation reaching the sensor tubes. The shield has an opening which permits ultraviolet radiation to reach one of the sensor tubes, hereafter referred to the sensing tube. However, the shield keeps ultraviolet radiation from reaching the other sensor tube, hereafter referred to as the reference tube. Both sensor tubes receive approximately the same amount of proton radiation, but the sensing tube also is able to receive ultraviolet radiation. The circuitry of the detector subtracts the output of the reference tube from the output of the sensing tube. Therefore, any portion of the output of the sensing tube which is due to proton radiation is offset by the output of the reference tube. Consequently, the output of the circuitry of the detector is proportional to the amount of ultraviolet radiation reaching the sensing tube. A delay circuit in the detector prevents false alarms by keeping statistical variations in the proton radiation sensed by the two sensor tubes from developing an output signal.
