摘要: A motion-picture-projection system has a top intermittent sprocket (1) and a bottom intermittent sprocket (6) that are rotated intermittently in unison by mechanical and/or electrical means (8, 9, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24) for conveyance of film (3) through a film gate (4) without formation of loops of film between the top intermittent sprocket and the film-gate outlet sprocket. To compensate for differences of length of unreeled film due to its cyclic advance and film-frame stoppage, compensatory loops (16, 17) are formed prior to instead of after a top intermittent sprocket and after instead of before a film-gate outlet sprocket. A film-contact surface (25, 26) of a film gate is arcuate and bordered with non-abrasive and suitably pliable material to minimize film wear. Air can be pumped onto the film for cooling and for distortion contamination resulting from heat absorption formation that is related to film "breathing". Electronic monitoring of film speed, frame-dwell time, heat, light, film noise, film flutters, film condition, compensatory-loop conditions, equipment functioning, equipment condition and other projection aspects with optionally automatic warnings, operational adjustments and electrical shutdown are provided. A use method is described.

摘要: A film tension absorbing mechanism is provided on a motion picture projector for absorbing film tension shock in the film strip. The tension absorbing mechanism includes a first system comprising the combination of a pivotally mounted, biased film exit guide roller for absorbing a portion of the tension and a tension absorbing sprocket drive to permit relative movement between the film strip and the sprocket. The tension absorbing sprocket includes a sprocket wheel and a relatively movable sprocket tooth ring rotatably mounted for generally conjoint rotation. The sprocket tooth ring is biased in a direction opposite the rotation of the sprocket wheel so that film tension shock can be absorbed as the sprocket tooth ring rotates relative to the sprocket wheel in a direction against the biasing force. A second system also is provided and includes a bi-directional tension absorbing drive sprocket for absorbing film tension shock in two directions. A sprocket tooth ring is mounted on a sprocket wheel for relative rotation therewith in two directions. A biasing mechanism provides for a different biasing torque to be applied to the tooth ring as it rotates in one direction versus rotation in another direction relative to the sprocket wheel.

摘要: A reversible drive transmission particularly suited for use in cassette contained film strip handling apparatus in which a film strip connected at opposite ends to supply and take-up spools is transported between the spools in one direction as for projection and in an opposite direction as in rewinding. A unidirectional input torque is transmitted by the transmission to one or the other of two drive spindles by a shiftable worm carrying shaft extending between and thus on opposite sides of drive spindle connected worm gears. The shaft and worms carried thereon, being driven in one direction, are alternately engaged with a take-up spool driving worm gear or a supply spool driving worm gear depending on the pivotal orientation of the worm carrying shaft. This shaft is supported rotatably on a shift plate pivotally supported from a fixed chassis structure and moved between positions of engagement with the respective spindle worm gears by a logic disc programming overall system operation. A logic disc follower and bracket assembly is pivoted for movement independently of the shift plate but connected therewith by a torsion spring to permit a biased loading of the shaft carrying worms in their respective worm gear engaging positions.

摘要: A motion picture projector having a slot for edgewise loading of the film is provided with a film strip encapsulating and drive system which is operated by a single control lever. Operation of a control lever moves a plurality of film path forming elements to an open position so that edgewise insertion of the film into the projector automatically forms loops on either side of a film gate. Closure of the control lever encapsulates the film strip within film gate drive sprockets and around a sound drum while maintaining free loops on either side of the film gate. The actuator includes a pair of switches to shut down a drive system projection lamp and an audio amplifier when moving between an open or loading position and a closed position to prevent inadvertent damage to the film which could occur if the drive means continued in operation. A second switch connected to the projection lamp and audio amplifier maintains these units in an off position when the actuator is in an open position.

摘要: A film projector system including a sealed film cassette removeably mountedithin an aperture in the projector and driving means in said projector mechanically engaging coupling means extending through said cassette for driving the sealed film between hubs sealed in said cassette intermittently past a film projection location in said cassette and continuously past a sound detection location therein, with the projection plane of the film at said projector locations being disposed normal to the projector optical projection optical sound beams and twisted ninety degrees with respect to the plane of that portion of the film wound on said hubs so that the projector beams do not pass between the film hubs. The coupling means extending through seals in the periphery of said cassette are biased in contact with similar coupling means associated with the projector driving means by pressure exerted upon said cassette by a cassette cover hinged to, and latched with, the projector body, and by springs mounted on the cassette cover and at the periphery of said projector aperture. The driving means can consist of stepping motor means supplied selectively with the proper type of electronic pulse input to effect intermittent film advance or continuous film movement at more than one speed in either the forward or reverse direction.

摘要: A modular film transport and control mechanism for selectively advancing either regular 8mm or super 8mm perforated motion picture film through a projection gate is provided. The module comprises a film transport shuttle having a film engaging claw biased for engagement with the perforations of the film, a rotatable drive cam in operative engagement with the shuttle to reciprocally move the claw along horizontal and vertical paths to advance the film through the projection gate, and a pivotally mounted projection mode shifter interposed between the shuttle and the cam to transmit the desired horizontal motion from the cam to the shuttle, and selectively movable between at least two positions along a surface of the cam to change the mode of operation from normal projection to still projection. A control linkage connected to the shifter permits manual selection of the desired operating mode. The module also comprises a rotatable shutter mounted on a common shaft with the shuttle drive cam. The shutter has a weighted outer peripheral ring to provide additional inertial force for driving the shuttle. A projection gate-framer assembly comprising a pair of elongated plates having suitable projection apertures, and defining a passage therebetween for the film is slidably mounted on the module for selective movement between a position for projecting regular 8mm film and a position for projecting super 8mm film. A manually adjustable screw bears against an inclined cam surface in each of said positions to properly locate the selected projection aperture with respect to the film frames.

摘要: A motion picture projector having a forward and reverse film transporting drive, an assembly for sensing a predetermined film tension condition and a mode controller for selecting various operational modes is provided with a control for selectively actuating a rewind mode of operation at a predetermined film tension condition.The selectively actuated rewind control arrangement includes a controller conditioner mechanism that is responsive to film tension and effective to position the controller from a predetermined projector operating mode such as a normal forward mode to a predetermined operating mode such as still when the predetermined film tension condition is sensed. A rewind mode actuator mechanism responsive to the controller conditioner mechanism is provided to control the film transporting drive in the rewind mode upon the operation of the controller conditioner mechanism.The rewind mode actuator mechanism in one arrangement includes a translating member for converting a linear displacement of the controller conditioning mechanism to a rotational movement which is connected to rotate a coupling rod carrying a displacing actuator. The displacing actuator displaces a reverse drive actuator in the film transporting assembly to condition it in a rewind mode.
