A speed governing apparatus for an internal combustion engine. A plurality of flyweights are pivoted to a flyweight carrier mounted on the cam shaft of the engine and a surface of each flyweight is engaged with the end of a spool that is mounted for rotation with the cam shaft, but can move axially thereof. A spring loaded non-rotatable fork straddles the cam shaft and is engaged with the opposite end of the spool. The fork is secured to a rod which, in turn, is operably connected to the throttle of the engine. The end of the spool, against which the fork rides, is an undulating cam surface which results in the continuous axial oscillation of the spool, and corresponding continuous radial oscillation of the flyweights relative to the spool, during operation of the engine. The radial oscillation of the flyweights relative to the spool reduces the frictional forces, so that under varying load conditions the spool can be more readily moved by the pivoting action of the flyweights to provide more precise speed control.

A centrifugal governor comprises a bar member pivotally mounted on a rotatable bearing member. The bar member is provided with an inclined ramp against which a follower bears which is connected to a device which is to be regulated. First and second resilient forces, which may be overcome by the centrifugal force generated by rotation of the bar member, urge the bar member into its rest position and the follower member into contact with the bar member. The governor is generally applicable, one of the preferred fields of application being the control of the flow through a channel associated with a ventilator.

A centrifugal force speed governor for fuel injected internal combustion engines having at least a negative adjustment capability. In such a centrifugal force speed governor the following structural components are included: speed responsive structure; at least one adaptation spring; an adjustment member; an intermediate lever; a yield support; a control element; a stop; an energy storing structure; and a setting lever having a pin mounted thereto. The adjustment member is coupled to the speed responsive structure, the adaptation spring, the control element and through the control element to the yield support, while the setting lever engages, with its pin, the intermediate lever, the control element and the energy storing structure. When the adjustment member is displaced by the speed responsive structure and under the regulation of the adaptation spring, a displacement of the intermediate lever via the control element and the setting lever pin occurs. This displacement of the intermediate lever is transferred to a fuel supply rate adjustment member of a fuel injection pump to which the intermediate lever is coupled, producing a negative adjustment of the fuel supply rate adjustment member, i.e., an adjustment which is in the direction of increasing fuel supply as the angular speed of the governor increases.
