A Guest Check Presenter Device and Method of Use. In one embodiment, advantageous for establishment use, the invention comprises a guest check presenter in the form of a booklet having a bill slot for holding a bill which can be made of transparent magnifying plastic that enlarges the appearance of the bill, which can be coupled with a light, enhancing visibility of the bill. The system also provides for a calculation device that limits its functionality and options: permitting the patrons to split the total of the bill, and calculate the percentage of gratuity desired selecting from choices provided on the face of the device. In a second embodiment advantageous for personal use, the case has a front and back side, with a computation device, a magnifier, and a light all being disposed on the case. By offering only limited functions, the device is made more user-friendly and time-efficient. The invention aids the elderly and eyesight-impaired individuals.

A device and a process for measuring fuel quality and/or economy is provided by this invention. The specific gravity of fuel is measured by any suitable means such as a hydrometer; the temperature of fuel is measured by another means, such as, a thermometer. Third means responsive to the measurements obtained by first two means converts the specific density of the fuel to specific density at a predetermined temperature and from that to fuel quality. The fuel quality can then be converted to fuel economy when the price of fuel is known. Alternatively, specific density of fuel corrected to the specific density at a predetermined temperature can be converted directly to fuel economy if the price of the fuel is known. For conversions described above suitable nomographs can be used.

An improved method and apparatus for calculating halftone screen exposures to produce photographic halftone reproductions useful in printing applications. In one embodiment, a slide-rule type computing apparatus incorporates plots of information including percent dot area versus continuous tone photographic densities, main exposures, percent basic flash exposures (BFE), and percent bump exposures derived empirically from the performance capabilities of the particular halftone reproduction facility used. The method and apparatus permits the coordinate calculation of main, bump and flash exposures.

A device and method especially suited for use in the design of a cable television signal distribution system includes a chart having mutually perpendicular axes representing the signal intensities at the Channels 2 and 13 picture carrier frequencies respectively. Modules representing individual components of the distribution system are each dimensioned to correspond to the loss of signal strength at each of the two reference frequencies on passage of a signal through the corresponding component. Each module is positioned on the chart with one of its corners at a point on the chart corresponding to the input signal strengths for the particular component. The signal strengths at the output of that component can then be read from the chart by reference to the position of a second corner of the module on the chart. By the use of L-shaped modules to represent a signal-dividing component and by positioning an outer corner between the legs of the module at a point on the chart corresponding to the input signal strengths for the particular component, an inner corner between the legs of the module is then positioned on the chart at a point corresponding to the signal strengths at the through-line output of the component while the legs of the module have such lengths that the signal strengths at a branch or tap output of the component can be read from the chart scales for the point of intersection of projections of the end edges of the legs of the module.
