摘要:
A computer-implemented method selectively outputs two types of vector data representative of user-input strokes. Type one stroke objects are generated in a device including a position input sensor, on which a user operates a pointer to generate a type one stroke object representative of a stroke. A stroke starts at a pen-down time at which the pointer is placed on the position input sensor and ends at a pen-up time at which the pointer is removed therefrom. Real-time rendering of a type one stroke object is started after the pen-down time of a stroke without waiting for the pen-up time. After completion of a type one stroke object through its pen-up time, the type one stroke object is converted to a type two stroke object, which is a set of curves defining a boundary of the stroke, and can be exported as a file or rendered on a display.

A system and method is able to recognize a user's natural superimposed handwriting without any explicit separation between characters. The system and method is able to process single-stroke and multi-stroke characters. The system and method can also process cursive handwriting. Further, the system and method can determine the boundaries of input words either by the use of a specific user input gesture or by detecting the word boundaries based on language characteristics and properties. The system and method analyzes the handwriting input through the processes of segmentation, character recognition, and language modeling. These three processes occur concurrently through the use of dynamic programming.

According to one embodiment, a handwritten character retrieval apparatus is provided with an acquisition unit, a separation unit, a feature extraction unit and a retrieval unit. The acquisition unit acquires a document including handwriting data. The separation unit separates the document into a plurality of parts. The feature extraction unit extracts feature values, each indicating a feature value of each part. The retrieval unit executes retrieval based on the feature values.

According to one embodiment, a system stores a plurality of contents in a storage medium, each content includes handwritten data including stroke data corresponding to strokes which are handwritten, image data corresponding to the strokes, and retrieval information for retrieving the handwritten data. The system provides, upon receiving a retrieve request including a character string from a terminal, to the terminal either the handwritten data in the content corresponding to first retrieval information, the first retrieval information corresponding to the character string from among retrieval information of the plurality of contents, or the image data in the content corresponding to the first retrieval information.

A method for text recognition includes generating a number of text hypotheses for an image, for example, using an HMM based approach using fixed-width analysis features. For each text hypothesis, one or more segmentations are generated and scored at the segmental level, for example, according to character or character group segments of the text hypothesis. In some embodiments, multiple alternative segmentations are considered for each text hypothesis. In some examples, scores determined in generating the text hypothesis and the segmental score are combined to select an overall text recognition of the image.

An automatic handwriting morphing and modification system and method for digitally altering the handwriting of a user while maintaining the overall appearance and style of the user's handwriting. Embodiments of the system and method do not substitute or replace characters or words but instead morph and modify the user's handwritten strokes to retain a visual correlation between the original user's handwriting and the morphed and modified version of the user's handwriting. Embodiments of the system and method input the user's handwriting and a set of morph rules that determine what the handwritten strokes of the user can look more like after processing. Morphs, which are a specific type or appearance of a handwritten stroke, are selected based on the target handwriting. The selected morphs are applied using geometric tuning, semantic tuning, or both. The result is a morphed and modified version of the user's handwriting.

A system for recognizing handwriting. A handwritten character is captured as an image of black pixels and white pixels. The image is partitioned into segments, each of which having a pixel ratio of a total number of black pixels in the segment to a total number of black pixels in the image. A reference character has segments corresponding to the image segments. Each reference character segment has a value range of a pixel ratio of a total number of black pixels in the segment of the reference character to a total number of black pixels in the reference character. It is ascertained that the pixel ratio of more than a predetermined number of segments in the image are within the value range of the pixel ratio of the corresponding segments of the reference character, from which, the handwritten character is recognized as the reference character.

A method of pattern and image recognition and identification includes building a data store of known patterns or images having known attributes and comparing those patterns to unknown patterns. The data store and comparison processing may be distributed across processors. A digital pattern recognition engine on each of the processors has the ability to compare a known pattern from the data store and an unknown pattern and compare the two patterns to determine whether the patterns constitute a match based on match criteria. If the comparison indicates a match, the match may be communicated to the data store and added as a known pattern with detected attributes to the data store. If the comparison does not indicate a match, the pattern may be flagged, transmitted to manual recognition, or further processed using character thresholding or cutting or slicing the pattern.

A cursive character handwriting recognition system includes image processing means for processing an image of a handwritten word of one or more characters and classification means for determining an optimal string of one or more characters as composing the imaged word. The processing means segments the characters such that each character is made up of one or more segments and determines a sequence of the segments using an over-segmentation-relabeling algorithm. The system also includes feature extraction means for deriving a feature vector to represent feature information of one segment or a combination of several consecutive segments. The over-segmentation-relabeling algorithm places certain segments considered as diacritics or small segments so as to immediately precede or follow a segment of the associated main character body. Additionally, the system also includes classification means that processes each string of segments and outputs a number of optimal strings which could be matched against a given lexicon.
