Abstract: The present disclosure relates to signal encoding and decoding, such as digital watermarking. One aspect of the technology relates a method of evaluating print quality of a test digital watermarking patch. The method includes: determining a reading window representing a distance in inches or centimeters from the test digital watermark patch and a camera utilized to collect a set of image frames depicting the test digital watermark patch, the test digital watermark patch comprising a first plural-bit payload, the reading window comprising a close edge and a far edge, the close edge representing a closest distance between the test digital watermark patch and the camera at which the first plural-bit payload can be decoded, and the far edge representing a farthest distance between the test digital watermark patch and the camera at which the first plural-bit payload can be decoded; determining a size ratio representing a size of the test digital watermark patch relative to the close edge and a size of the test digital watermark patch relative to the far edge; and utilizing the size ratio to evaluate the print quality of the test digital watermarking patch. Other aspects are described as well.

Abstract: This disclosure describes systems and methods for unobtrusively and adaptively displaying a watermark on a display screen based on context sensing and behavior analytics. The techniques can include receiving from a sensor of a user device, information about a focus of attention of a user viewing a display screen of the computing device; determining a placement of a perceptible watermark for displaying onto the display screen based, at least in part, on the focus of attention of the user; causing media content to be displayed on the display screen; and causing the watermark to be displayed on the display screen in a position on the display screen based on the focus of attention of the user.

Abstract: Methods and systems for identifying altered content are described herein. The system generates a fingerprint for an unverified content item and locates a plurality of content items that match the fingerprint. The system then compares corresponding frames between the unverified content item and each content item of the plurality of content items. The system identifies, based on the comparing, an altered frame in the unverified content item that does not match a corresponding frame in two or more of the plurality of content items. The system also determines that one or more frames of the unverified content item that follow the altered frame match corresponding frames in the two or more of the plurality of content items. The system then generates for display an indication that the unverified content item contains one or more altered frames.

Abstract: Techniques for digital watermarking of data are provided herein. The techniques include receiving a request for digitally watermarking a set of data, determining uncertainty related to the set of data, determining an watermarking layout for the set of data, generating a watermarked set of data based at least in part on encoding the digital watermark using the watermarking layout, optionally testing the watermark for fitness, and causing control of a controllable system using a computer-based reasoning model that was determined at least in part based on data cases in the watermarked set of data.

Abstract: The technology described herein can generate a unique identifier for a visual media that comprises pre-printed visual indications on the visual media and a user's handwritten signature. The location of the signature on the visual media can be determined by including preprinted fiducial marks on the visual media. The fiducial markers act as landmarks that allow the size and location of the signature to be determined in absolute terms. The unique identifier is then stored in computer memory on a user-experience server. The user-experience server can associate the unique identifier with a digital asset, such as an image or video, designated by the user. When the unique identifier is provided to the user-experience server a second time, the digital asset can be retrieved and output to the computing device that provided the unique identifier.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to advanced image signal processing technology including encoded signals and digital watermarking. One claim is directed to a container comprising: a 3004 or 3003 aluminum alloy shell, the shell comprising an outer surface and an inner surface; a first layer of transparent ink printed on the outer surface as a flood within a first region; a second layer of the transparent ink printed over the first layer of transparent ink within the first region, in which the second layer of the transparent ink is printed to include a plurality of holes without any transparent ink printed therein; an opaque ink printed within the plurality of holes of the second layer of transparent ink on first layer of transparent ink within the first region, in which: i) the outer surface/first layer/second layer, and ii) the outer surface/first layer/opaque ink comprise a spectral reflectance difference at a machine-vision wavelength in the range of 8%-35%, and in which the plurality of holes are arranged in a 2-dimensional pattern according to a machine-readable signal, the 2-dimensional pattern being machine-readable from imagery captured of the first region. Of course, other containers, methods, packages, objects, systems, technology and apparatus are described in this disclosure.

Abstract: Information may be visually encoded within visual content of an image using a distortion projection. The distortion projection may cause stretching of a visual element defined within a pixel array of the image. Information may be visually encoded within the pixel array using visual characteristic(s) of the pixel array. Presentation of the visual content based on a non-distortion projection may reduce a number of pixels that defines the visual element within the pixel array and may reduce visual impact of the information visually encoded within the pixel array.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to advanced signal processing technology including steganographic embedding and digital watermarking. One combination disclosed in the description includes an image processing method. The method includes: obtaining an image comprising a plurality of color channels; for each color channel of the plurality of color channels, creating a grayscale version of the color channel and creating an inverted greyscale version of the color channel; analyzing the grayscale inverted version and the grayscale non-inverted version to locate image areas including an encoded signal, said analyzing yielding a plurality of image areas; generating one or more detectability measures corresponding to the encoded signal for each of the plurality of image areas; for each color channel selecting only one (1) image area as a validation point based on one or more generated detectability measures for that color channel; and generating information associated with a spatial location of each of the validation points in the image. Of course, other features and combinations are described as well.
