Abstract:
A multi-roll segment package provides a method of winding a single length of plastic tape on a plurality of closely spaced roll segments. The roll segments are wound on a core with the length of tape continuous from the inner diameter of the first roll segment to the segment outer diameter of the last roll segment. Tape protectors made of a stiff web material enclose a portion of the lengths of tape between segment outer diameters to the next sequential segment inner diameter. The tape protectors stabilize the tape as it is turned or folded to the core of the next sequential roll segment position.
Abstract:
The winding of a tacky sealant strip by applying a non-sticking liner into contact with one surface of the strip such that the liner provides marginal edges on either side of the sealant strip. The strip and liner are wound progressively into a reel such that the liner maintains a clearance space between adjacent sealant strips while simultaneously providing a non-sticking circumferential surface for a second wound row of sealant strip material. Additional rows of such liner and strip are progressively wound on such reel.
Abstract:
The wound body or package comprises a band or tape or the like which is wound thereon in the form of parallel windings or layers. At the central region of the wound package there is arranged a continuous or through-passing axial opening which is bounded by an inner winding layer of the wound band or tape. This inner winding layer together with the neighboring winding layers form a support body for the wound package. In this way there can be precluded the need to use any extraneous support body formed of a separate material.
Abstract:
A spool with enhanced capacity for narrow strip components of tires for use in building tires is provided by winding such strip together with a cloth strip in successive alternating helical layers. A method for preparing such spool and a method for dispensing strip therefrom to a tire building machine are also disclosed. The foregoing abstract is not to be taken as limiting the invention of this application, and in order to understand the full nature and extent of the technical disclosure of this application, reference must be made to the accompanying drawing and the following detailed description.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for winding a thin elastomeric ribbon having a low coefficient to friction onto a reel is disclosed. The ribbon is fed onto a rotating reel while being traversed along the axial length of the reel to distribute the ribbon onto the reel. The nodes typically formed on the axial ends of ribbon rolls wound in this manner are eliminated by reversing the traversed direction of the ribbon short of the end cap of the reel to form a gap between the axial end of the ribbon roll and the end cap and then shifting the ribbon turns into the gap to thereby collapse the node.
Abstract:
Tape is wound into a package by traversing the winding position along a cylindrical core such that the winding position is intermittently and repeatedly halted at a plurality of positions arranged axially of the core so that at each position the tape is wound spirally following which the winding position is traversed to the next adjacent position. The spirals comprise at least one turn and more of the winding time is spent in forming spirals than in traversing between spirals. The spacing between the positions is such that the spirals do not overlap and such that the gap between the spirals is less than the width of the tape. The number of spirals wound at each position is insufficient to cause a step which interferes with traverse back to the position. Control of the traverse movement can be achieved either electronically by a pulse counter connected to the package support shaft or electro-magnetically by a control drum driven from the package support shaft.
