摘要: Composting device for night soil and other biodegradable material, comprising a receptacle for receiving the material to be composted and on the bottom of which a starting bed is to be spread out. The receptacle comprises an inner, seal-tight lining in the form of a sack (10) made from a flexible, liquid-impermeable material and a carrier (1) intended to support the sack. The sack is constructed with liquid drains (14) for the drainage of liquid which is separated from the composting material. The carrier (1) and the sack-lined receptacle are arranged such that they can be transported as a unit to a depot after the sack (10) has been wholly or partially filled. The bottom of the carrier (1) is constructed with openable hatches (8), which allow the sack (10) with its contents to be deposited in the depot through the said bottom when the carrier (1) is lifted.

摘要: A mixing drum for a composting toilet has an auger for transporting mixed material from a back end of the mixing drum to the front end of the mixing drum in order to increase the residence time of material mixed in the drum. The auger is enclosed in an auger tube and the auger rotates about an axis which is radially spaced from the longitudinal axis for the mixing drum, about which the mixing drum itself rotates.

摘要: A waterless sanitation system with ventilation. A toilet within a building is located over a pit having a solids holding basket suspendedly mounted within a liquids holding tank. A plurality of air inlet pipes extend externally of the building downwardly through the basket and into the liquids holding tank with a plurality of apertures provided on the pipes allowing the air to enter both the basket and tank. An exit pipe extends upwardly from the tank through the basket and through the roof of the building. A plurality of apertures in the exit pipe allow the gas within the tank and basket to escape. An exhaust fan is provided to pull the air downwardly through the inlet pipes and the gas outwardly through the exhaust pipe. The inlet pipes have mouths oriented to catch the wind assisting the flow of air.

摘要: Apparatus for treating waste, particularly household waste, by means of composting. The waste is collected in a generally known fashion into the collecting bowl (1), wherefrom they are immediately moved on the spiral conveyor (21) into the mixing drum (5), which is set into rotating motion by means of the actuator (12). Inside the mixing drum (5) there is arranged an amount of such medium substance which is formed of separate plastic or steel bullets, onto the surface whereof the waste sticks during mixing. In connection to the mixing drum (5) there is arranged the discharge space (9), which is provided with separator means (10) for separating the composted waste or soil. The compost soil is continuously moved out of the discharge space (9) and further into a bag or the equivalent. A partial feedback of the soil is arranged from the discharge space (9) back into the collecting bowl.

摘要: A biological decomposition toilet automatically controls stirring of the mixture of organic waste and activating material as a function of the moisture content of the mixture. Rather than sensing mixture moisture content as a function of water vapor pressure above the mixture, the moisture sensor is disposed below the surface of the mixture, either in a specially-formed recess in the toilet wall or directly immersed in the mixture. A heater is disposed near the air inlet opening and is energized when the sensed moisture is above an exceedingly high moisture level so as to evaporate moisture from the incoming air. The stirrer mechanism includes plural motors and respective parallel spaced drive shafts having radial mixing prongs spaced longitudinally and axially along each shaft. Adjacent shafts are rotated in opposite directions. The prongs of any one shaft have equal lengths, but the prongs of adjacent shafts are of different lengths to encourage a serpentine circulation path for the mixture during stirring. Successive prongs are spaced at opposite angular directions so that alternate prongs along the shaft have uniform angular spacing.

摘要: Method and apparatus for effecting the natural simultaneous biochemical decomposition of feces and urine involving the decomposition of the feces and the urine independently of each other and at different temperature but within a single apparatus. The urine is directed alone to an absorbent mineral pad and permitted to decompose as it passes slowly therethrough. The feces are mixed with a vegetable material and introduced into a separate decomposition area to a first stage where the temperature is maintained at 30*c, thereafter to a second stage where the temperature is maintained at 50* to 70*c. and thereafter to a third or final maturing stage where decomposition is completed. Excess air is introduced to the feces decomposition area during the decomposition and the feces mixture is maintained at a moisture level of 60% to 70% throughout the process, the decomposed urine being utilized to maintain the moisture level. The apparatus includes the principal chamber having at least a pair of canted planar members arranged in different planes but in a sequence, mineral wool members being carried by each of said members, said members being positioned to receive the urine and permit same to flow slowly, sequentially therethrough. The mats may be impregnated with nitrogen bacteria to aid decomposition. The feces are mixed with vegetable matter and introduced into the principal chamber, the floor of which being sloped in stages, the greater slope being at the first stage for initially receiving the mixture, the next stage being of lesser slope and the last stage being sloped in an opposite direction whereby totally defining a bowl-like configuration. The temperature within and the flow of air through the chamber is controlled.

摘要: LIQUID SEWAGE FROM AN INDIVIDUAL RESIDENCE IS DIRECTED GENERALLY TANGENTIALLY INTO A LARGE, FLAT AND SHALLOW AEROBIC SETTLEMENT TANK TO EXPOSE A LARGE SURFACE AREA OF THE SEWAGE PER UNIT VOLUME. AIR IS CIRCULATED OVER THE SURFACE OF THE SEWAGE IN A GENERALLY SPIRAL DIRECTION TO EFFECT CIRCULATION OR TURBULENCE OF THE SEWAGE WITHIN THE TANK AND DIFFUSION OF THE AIR INTO THE LIQUID. THE AIR FLOW WITHIN THE TANK IS PRODUCED BY CONNECTING THE AIR FLOW WITHIN TANK TO A CHIMNEY WHICH PROJECTS UPWARDLY ADJACENT THE OUTER WALL OF THE RESIDENCE AND CREATES A NATURAL DRAFT. THE LIQUID TREATED IN THE AEROBIC SETTLEMENT TANK IS DIRECTED INTO A SIMILARLY SHAPED AEROBIC DIGESTOR AND CLARIFIER TANK WHICH ALSO PROVIDES FOR CIRCULATION OF THE TREATED LIQUID AND DIFFUSION OF THE AIR IN RESPONSE TO A GENERALLY SPIRAL FLOW OF AIR ALSO CREATED BY THE CHIMNEY DRAFT. THE SECOND TANK DEFINES AN ANNULAR CLARIFIER CHAMBER WHICH RECEIVES THE TREATED LIQUID BEFORE IT IS DISCHARGED. THE DISCHARGED EFFLUENT MAY BE DIRECTED THROUGH A CHLORINATOR FORMED BY A VERTICAL HOUSING WHICH RECEIVES A SUPPLY OF CHLORINE CRYSTALS. THE CRYSTALS ARE URGED DOWNWARDLY INTO THE PATH OF THE EFFLUENT BY A COMBINED WEIGHT AND VALUE MEMBER WHICH IS EFEICTIVE TO STOP THE FLOW OF TREATED LIQUID IN THE EVENT ADDITIONAL CHLORINE CRYSTALS ARE NOT ADDED TO THE SUPPLY.
