A drum type washing machine includes a cabinet, a fixed drum set in the cabinet to contain wash water therein, a rotary drum rotatably set inside the fixed drum, a pump which forcibly pumps out the wash water contained in the fixed drum, and a water circulation device which feeds the wash water pumped by the pump into the rotary drum in a washing operation. The water circulation device includes a storing unit and a spraying unit. The storing unit guides the wash water to the rear panel of the rotary drum. The spraying unit is provided at the rear panel of the rotary drum, and sprays the wash water contained in the storing unit into the rotary drum.

A waste-water treatment and recycling process that reduce water, energy and chemical consumption in commercial laundry operations. A portion of the warm waste water from each wash cycle is first passed through a vibrating shaker screen to remove particles larger than 70 microns and then filtered through a 1-5 micron medium in a tubular filtration unit. The clear-water filtrate is then heated to operating temperature and recycled to the wash cycle of the process through the hot-water feed system. Only unheated fresh water is used for the rinse cycle, thereby also providing make-up water to the system. For operations requiring low total dissolved solids, a nanofiltration unit is added downstream of the tubular filtration unit.

When tableware is washed and rinsed in a dishwasher using a plurality of washing steps, the tableware is washed within 10 minutes using acid ionized water having a pH value of at most 6.0 and a temperature of at least 40.degree. C. in a first washing step, whereby dirt is made to form cohesion and is prevented from being reattached to the tableware, so that a washing load in the following washing steps is reduced. Furthermore, the tableware is washed for at least 15 minutes with alkaline ionized water having a pH value of at least 8.5 and a temperature of at least 55.degree. C. in at least one of the washing steps, whereby the washing effects on fats and oils, protein and starch are improved. In addition, while the two kinds of ionized water mentioned above are being produced simultaneously, one ionized water produced is supplied to a washing vessel for use in the present washing and the other ionized water produced is supplied to and stored in a water tank for use in the next washing, so that provision of two or more water tanks is not necessary, resulting in reduction in size of dishwashers and in manufacturing cost thereof. Moreover, two kinds of ionized water produced simultaneously are used as washing water without being discarded before use, so that water saving can be achieved.

This invention in its most basic form is a reservoir container that is adapted to hold the rinse water from the final rinse cycle of a washing machine and a means for conveying the rinse water after being used in the final rinse cycle of the washing machine into the reservoir and the means for returning that water to the wash machine for the beginning of the wash cycle of the next load. The reservoir in the preferred embodiment for a household wash machine holds approximately twenty-five gallons. It is hooked to the washer drain through a two way valve. During the wash cycle this two way valve allows the water to flow out of the washer and into the drain. But for the final rinse cycle the valve directs the water from the washer into the reservoir. The reservoir is also hooked to the incoming water source of the washer by a two way valve. When the reservoir is filled with the rinse water from a previous wash and the washer started for a new wash, this incoming two way valve allows the water from the reservoir to flow into the washer. When the washer again calls for water for the rinse cycle, the valve allows the water from the household water supply to flow into the washer.
