Each notch has as least three notch surfaces, each surface being complementary to a corresponding profile surface of the gemstone. The gemstone is set in the setting prongs so that portions of the gemstone profile surfaces are received in respective notches. The gemstone is secured within the setting by manually deforming the setting prongs such that the notch surfaces of each notch substantially conform to the corresponding profile surfaces of the gemstone.

A first flute is formed on the main body portion along a first helix. A second flute is formed on the main body portion along a second helix. The cutting edge (32) and the chip outlet edge (36) are disposed on helicoidal paths (38, 40) which diverge in top view. Tooth edges (42) on the side surface form angles (b) with the top surface (24). The cutter plate (20) can be installed obliquely to the tool axis, for example the shaft of the tool in order to achieve a soft first cut, which has a higher degree of quiet running, longer tool life, and a lower cutting pressure of the tool and to effect higher stability of the tool, in particular with small shaft diameters.
