    摘要: The invention discloses a device and a method for producing microstructures with a spindle, which is adapted to be driven for rotation about its longitudinal axis and which is provided with a fixture for clamping a workpiece, having an actuator provided with a fast drive, in particular a piezo drive, adapted to produce fast movement of a tool in a direction substantially perpendicular to the workpiece surface, which actuator can be positioned along a workpiece surface to be worked with the aid of an additional drive adapted to produce a linear feed motion in a first direction, the fast drive being coupled with the tool via guide means that allow feeding of the tool in axial direction of the fast drive, against the action of a restoring force, and that is highly rigid in a plane perpendicular to that direction. The control technology used permits microstructures to be produced precisely and reproducibly utilizing the dynamic properties of the system.

    摘要: A dual template assembly for permitting rough and finish cuts to be made on successive passes of a tracer lathe includes separate rough and finish templates. A pneumatic cylinder selectively causes sliding movement of the rough template relative to the finish template. The rough template is initially moved to an extended position, wherein an edge thereof is exposed over an edge of the finish template. A lathe tracing stylus is moved across the rough template edge, causing the lathe to remove material from a workpiece in accordance with the rough shaped defined thereby. A sensor generates a signal when the tracing stylus completes its movement across the rough template. In response thereto, the control circuit causes the rough template to be moved to a retracted position, wherein the finish template edge is exposed over the rough template edge. The tracing stylus is then moved across the finish template edge, thereby causing the lathe to remove material from the workpiece in accordance with the final shape defined thereby. The control circuit then returns the rough template to the extended position so that the entire operation may be repeated.

    摘要: The invention relates to a taper turning attachment for a lathe or the like and includes a template which may be selectively moved to either a first position where it will engage a portion of the cross-slide or to a second position wherein the movement of the cross-slide is unaffected. The template is either raised or lowered by means of a piston and cylinder arrangement laterally mounted on the bed of the lathe and may be automatically actuated through the action of an appropriate programming mechanism. The cross-slide includes a downwardly extending lug which is provided with a roller for the purpose of engaging the guide face of the template during the lateral movement of the cross-slide with respect to the carriage thereby causing the tool to move in a path paralleling the template guide face. The angle of the guide face with respect to the spindle is angularly adjustable in the plane in which the cross-slide and carriage move.

    摘要: A knurling tool having a fixed knurl bar and multiple, interchangeable tool bars for use in conjunction with a lathe. Molds for forming glass containers are knurled on their interior surfaces by a knurling wheel while being rotated by a lathe. The configuration of the mold cavity requires the knurling wheel to be positioned at three separate angles during the process. The knurl bar is properly aligned with respect to the mold, and a tool bar carrying a knurlng wheel is inserted for the first knurling operation. After the first operation, the tool bar is removed and a new tool bar, having the proper angle for the next knurling operation, is inserted. This procedure is repeated for the third knurling operation using a third tool bar having yet a third angle.

    摘要: A control system for controlling the movement of an element such as a cutting tool relative to a workpiece, maintaining the tool under continuous path control. The plane of the path relates to two non-parallel coordinate axes. The system includes a pair of working slides, one for each of said axes, and a pair of template support means for holding a template so that a reference surface bearing positioning information moves past a respective tracer mechanism on a path normal to the control motion of the tracer mechanism. Motor means under the control of respective tracer valves move the working slides so as to cause the cutting tool to form a desired contour in the workpiece. The templates are driven synchronously, and their reference surfaces are of indefinite length whereby a plurality of cutting passes can be made with one set of templates. If desired, another synchronously driven template is provided to exert concurrent control over other machine functions such as spindle speeds, pumping actions, and feed rate. The invention comprehends a means for designing the templates, and a machine controlled by the resulting templates.

    摘要: A follower mechanism for cam-controlled machine tools which is responsive to abrupt changes in the slope of the control cam. A two-link lever system carries a bearing pin and a stylus pin. The bearing pin is engaged to the sensor element of the follower mechanism, and when it is moved sufficiently far laterally in either direction by encountering an abrupt slope, such as a rising or falling shoulder relative to its travel, stops the cam motion and throws the mechanism into a condition which will cause the stylus pin to trace over the surface of the abrupt slope.
